American being the racist country as usual!

Three Black men sued American Airlines for discrimination discrimination when they and five other Black men were kicked off a flight in January over a complaint of "offensive body odor."

Starbase activities (2024-05-24):

Other:

six engines that shut down early in the boostback burn were disabled from attempting the landing burn startup, leaving seven engines commanded to start up with two successfully reaching mainstage ignition. The booster had lower than expected landing burn thrust when contact was lost at approximately 462 meters in altitude

likely root cause for the early boostback burn shutdown was determined to be continued filter blockage where liquid oxygen is supplied to the engines, leading to a loss of inlet pressure in engine oxygen turbopumps. SpaceX implemented hardware changes ahead of Flight 3 to mitigate this issue, which resulted in the booster progressing to its first ever landing burn attempt. Super Heavy boosters for Flight 4 and beyond will get additional hardware inside oxygen tanks to further improve propellant filtration capabilities

Several minutes after Starship began its coast phase, the vehicle began losing the ability to control its attitude

likely root cause of the unplanned roll was determined to be clogging of the valves responsible for roll control. SpaceX has since added additional roll control thrusters on upcoming Starships to improve attitude control redundancy and upgraded hardware for improved resilience to blockage

  • Also notable: IFT-4 flight test timeline lists “landing burn”. I wonder if this will be a soft-water or a hard-water landing?
  • Comparison of IFT-3 and IFT-4 flight timelines.

Completed my long student this morning, which means I have officially met the qualifications for my private pilot's license! Just have to prep for the final oral/practical tests!

Also got some great pictures while I was in some smooth traffic-free air over central Florida. This state is really gorgeous at 3500 feet.

Several small lakes surrounded by agricultural fields and dotted above by small clouds.
Small clouds over a dense forest with a small neighborhood cut out of it.
Sunshafts through an uneven and beautifully backlit upper cloud layer, over a green land dotted with shining lakes as a single road cuts its way towards the horizon.

Just did my first cross country (120nm) at night in ! KORL to KOCF back to KORL.

Most important lesson I learned? Don't at night under visual flight rules. I should wait until I get my instrument rating if I want to fly at night.

Engineers at JPL today monitored a final transmission from the disabled Mars helicopter Ingenuity.

Mars rover Perseverance is ready to move on west for exploration of the Jezero crater rim.

Ingenuity will no longer be able to communicate with earth, but newly loaded software will allow it to make and store measurements every day, to be retrieved by a future robotic or human mission. Ingenuity’s memory could potentially hold about 20 years’ worth of daily data.

Mars Helicopter Ingenuity was just a 30-day tech. demo. mission to test powered, controlled flight on another world, with 5 test flights.

Almost 3 years later, Ingenuity completed 72 flights and would have trudged on if not for the rotor damage on Jan 18.

The map below shows the trailblazing helicopter's adventurous path thru Jezero Crater over the past 3 years.

Ingenuity's legacy will live on in the design of future such aircraft.

#Boeing plane nosedives and sends #passengers flying >>>

This passenger recounts how he'd fallen asleep on the plane, only to be awoken by a sharp jolt as the plane lost about 500' altitude and passengers were thrown to the ceiling. The #pilot told him that he lost control of the plane and his #flight instruments went blank during the incident 😳

I don't see how Boeing recovers from this series of Very Bad Events.

"Unhappiness with air travel took a new turn when maggots rained down on passengers on a Delta flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan, on Tuesday.

A passenger reportedly brought rotten fish on to the plane in a carry-on bag, and placed it in an overhead bin, before the maggots broke free and rained on to passengers seated below, the Independent reported."
