It took a little longer, but I finally got the #Rust examples to compile for the #Sega#Dreamcast on my machine. However, it was a long way to setup the toolchain for it. Hopefully this can be improved a bit in the future. I guess I have to catch up the messages on the Discord server to see if there were some new features introduced during the last few days. #retro#development
Wooohooo... Finally you can use the Rust on the Dreamcast! I just read this message on the development Discord channel:
From darcagent (@darcag3nt on X)
"Rust? On my#Sega#Dreamcast? It's more likely than you think! I just put out a tutorial and supporting repo for creating Rust projects in Cargo targetting Dreamcast + #KallistiOS using rustc_codegen_gcc! Here's an example cube calling GLdc from #Rust!"
I painted my Dreamcast pink and white! I messed up a bit with applying painter's tape that caused a bare spot above the triangle on the lid, but I'm still happy with the result!
You can choose a video game that never existed to come out on just one game console to happen. Which one would you choose? I would definitely go for a completely new Panzer Dragoon for the Dreamcast. 🌀
I talked about how fighting games were one of the genres that made me jump from the PSone towards the Saturn in 1997 and how it ended up not only being my favourite system that generation but overall as well.
This video is a great example of the wealth of fighting games released on Saturn, but also the Dreamcast.
Dreamcast fixed! Turns out the culprit was a stupid thing. Last year I borrowed the noctua 5v fan from the Dreamcast to use on my Orange Pi 5 and never put another fan back. After spending a lot of time trying to debug this weird issue, changed the PSU to a PicoPSU, changed the gdemu for the optical drive. It would always turn off a few seconds after boot. Apparently the DC has a safety shutdown in case it won’t detect the fan is working 🤦♂️ #retrogaming#sega#dreamcast
Hmm this #SEGA#Dreamcast#GDEmu is probably a dud. Bought it 1-2 years ago from AliExpress (so I guess it’s a clone?) and it worked fine. Played a couple of times and worked fine. The SD card was brand new as well (not from AliExpress ;-)). Sometime later started having these stuck at loading issues but could get past it. But currently, it’s not getting further anymore. Bah.
The HD remake of Sonic Adventure was on sale on Steam from $1.99, so even though it got kind of mixed reviews I couldn't resist that price for a #sega#dreamcast classic, I never feel bad at treating myself to video games under $5.
Turns out there was a bunch of Christmas content that I missed out on from some of my favorite games like Sonic Adventure
and Sonic Adventure 2 that was only available on the Dreamcast but not in the GameCube ports of the same games.
First time...?
