While less well received than its Pro Pinball predecessors, I loved Big Race USA, with its wonderful table design and superb visuals. The means to mess around with configs also unleashed your inner pinball geek. Alas, only the first entry in the series, Timeshock, ever got a modern remake, and so this game’s race permanently ended long ago.
My first hours with the #Retroid Pocket 2S reminded me how easy setting up a #MiyooMini was... Starting from scratch, having to install standalone emulators, doing far more #RetroArch config than any sane human should have to do...
But I finally got there, and ended up withwhat seems like a really nice device. Comfortable to hold, really excellent sticks and triggers, it runs everything up to #Dreamcast and #PSP really well, and even a few #Gamecube games.
Bought some cute #RetroGaming pins on #Etsy a few weeks ago, they really look great! I was planning to stick them on my backpack, but now I'm a bit worried they'll get damaged in the rain/snow so I might stick them on my camera bag instead.
Going to #ClassicGameFest today. Trying not to spend too much money but I can't guarantee I won't come home with... I dunno... a Wonderswan or something. Last year I got a broken #Dreamcast for 30 bucks and brought it back to life with an SD card adapter. Also a GBC and a couple of cheap-as-chips #Atari carts.
Today, 25 years ago, the #SEGA#Dreamcast hit the scene.
It gave us several well known masterpieces, like Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Ikaruga, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Eternal Arcadia and many, many others.
Also many lesser known gems, such as Gundam Side Story 0079, Carrier, Sakura Taisen, Segagaga, Aero Wings 2…
These games from more than 2 decades ago seem to never age, and we're as grateful as always to this spiraling beast 💜
From Mushroomer to Gillman to Podfish to Frogman, learn everything you need to know about the evolution and impact of the world's most mysterious creature.
This one was no more realistic tennis than SWOS was realistic football. But it achieved the same goal of creating a version of the sport that existed in your head. Matches were fast-paced and often absurd affairs, packed full of exciting last-ditch dives and loads of loud guitars you imagine an actual umpire at Wimbledon wouldn’t tolerate. The zombie players were a bit weird, mind.
I can’t be the only one who remembers Seganet. When I had a #Dreamcast back in the day, before broadband was available, I subscribed to this #dialup ISP.
It was… fine. I mean it was dialup so it was basically the same as the service I had already been using. I wanted it because it had #SEGA in the name! Can you blame me?
You’d loved to have been in the room. “You know what House of the Dead needs more of?” “What?” “Typing!” And so Sega mashed its fab light gun shooter into Mavis Beacon and the result was… awesome. Rather than aim and fire, you smashed out words accurately, or had your face torn off. Now someone have the next Walking Dead TV show do the same, for the yuks.
This one was like if Populous and Tetris had a baby. You dropped blocks on a map to create mounds, the aim being to hold water that fell from the sky. Lose too much water and it was game over. Naturally, hazards rocked up to ruin your work, including water-freezing ice cubes and smashy earthquakes. Most games that tried to evolve Tetris were a damp squib. This one made a splash.
With the Persona reveals for the big Xbox event tonight already out there, now my biggest wish is for the reveal of Jet Set Radio while also doing a shadow drop of Jet Set Radio Future the same day.
The #Dreamcast’s US Launch anniversary is today. 24 years ago, on 9/9/99, SEGA’s final console launched in the US. And Sonic Adventure launched alongside it.
