It’s sometimes amusing to listen to some of the air to ground transmission on the #Apollo flights. A lot of the chatter is the #astronauts talking about #poo, actually #p00, with no hint of adolescent smirking, like this gem on #Apollo12:
109:46:48 Conrad: And, Houston, whenever you’re ready, we’re ready to give you P00 and Data.
P00 was the quiescent state of the #Guidance#Computer where it was ready to receive instructions and data either from the #DSKY#keyboard or #Houston.
JOYCE emulates the Amstrad PCW on Unix, Windows and Mac OS X. Since it's written using SDL, it shouldn't be too hard to port it to other platforms such as MacOS Classic or BeOS....
After moving away from twitter and embracing #Mastodon and #Bluesky, as well as replacing Google Search with DuckDuckGo, and embracing alternatives to Gmail and Google Chrome, I think I'm now ready for the biggest transition yet. I'm seriously thinking of embracing #Linux. Time to embrace #opensource computing and software. Windows doesn't feel right these days. Truthfully, it hasn't felt right for a while.
If you have a text file in the format of [LastName], [FirstName] [MiddleName] in #python and you are trying to append all of the first names to a list named firstNames, use a for line in data loop then firstNames.append(line[line.find(" ") + 1:][:line[line.find(" ") + 1:].find(" ")]).
Mazeon’s animated pixel tribute to the Commodore Amiga 500.
The Amiga was a revolutionary computer in the 1980s and early 1990s, spawning many software devs, music composers and graphic artists (including myself).
The screen shows a low-res version of the legendary Boing Ball, an early demonstration showing off some of the Amiga’s multitasking power.
When I was a 16-bit game graphics creator, I got accustomed to thinking in multiples of 16, for sprite dimensions, game scenery patterns, image resolutions, RGB color values and more.
That became a lasting habit. Even now, long after using multiples of 16 was necessary, I'm still entering 16, 32, 48, 64, et cetera, when numerical input is required. Does anyone happen to recognize this? 🙂
thinking about designing my own #computer again. don't expect something to come from it, but seeing other computer projects inspires me.
one thing that excites me most is the idea of having a self-organizing mesh network for connecting components. that doesn't seem like that extreme of an overhead computationally, but i wonder how far you can push it.
it seems like every peripheral protocol has some sort of controller, so i guess i'd just have a little router in each and call it a node.
