Having now written the same PoC plugin from scratch three times for different APIs:

  • is by far my favorite: open, very clean, no bullshit
  • is obtuse in a way APIs / frameworks by big corporations tend to be. Logic / GarageBand being the de facto implementations, their bugs in effect become undocumented parts of the API
  • ... oh boy. Steinberg shot for the moon when a ladder would be enough, as demonstrated by CLAP. Awful experience.

Started using @golang for simple command line tooling instead of Typescript. So far enjoying it very much, I think it’s bye bye to (cli/serverside) Typescript for me.

@yth You might have more fun with #Rust, especially for command line tools.

#Clap makes writing CLIs a breeze, especially with its derive API: https://docs.rs/clap/latest/clap

For a TUI, #Ratatui is awesome! Here is a showcase:

I am head over heels excited about the CLAP plugin format, both as a musician and a developer. It's really incredible what it allows both parties to achieve. This talk by the devs was very nice, I think:

The based on has been updated to include like mod knobs! 🥳️ https://midilab.co/jc303/

And there's a #clap version too now. Amazing.

Started working on the final #UI for my convolution #CLAP / #VSTPlugin. As I’m working on it on my free time, I’m expecting to be done some time next year.

This might be the first time I’m developing a UI for something that’s essentially feature complete, although some logic changes are necessary to make the interface elegant and easy to understand. Quite a different way of working compared to what I’m used to, with both positives and negatives.

How many do you have installed on your system? 🫣️ I always remove the ones I do not use and currently sport the following numbers: : 36 / : 22 / : 92 / : 104
If I subtract different variants of the same plug-in, I get 92 individual plug-ins. Feels like a lot to me! 😝️

Seeing modulation amount visualized in the GUI shouldn’t be this satisfying, but it is.

Doing some prototyping in preparation for implementing the final GUI for my upcoming plugin.

Modulation of DAW plugin parameter being visualized in the plugin interface itself.

My buddy @amadeus keeps adding goodies to our https://linuxdaw.org site.

Today, miniBit by @audiothing !

Check it out!

Default sorting on the site is always latest additions/updates of plugins to the #linuxaudio world, so you can pretty much use it as "news site". We also have a RSS feed for the old-schoolers..

Any good stuff missing? Just let us know, contributions are most welcome :)

#hsml now has the ability to read a file from the command line and create an HTML file from it 🥳

At the current stage 🚧 of the project, I don't want to release the crate just yet, so you'll need to clone the repo if you want to try it

Then just run e.g. cargo run -- example.hsml and an example.html will be written (or panic 😜)

The #cli arguments are subject to change at any time before an official release

It uses #clap under the hood

I just learnt about this multiplatform #DAW: Bass-Studio
http://bass-studio.com/

Haven't tried it yet, but it looks good and supports #VST2 and #CLAP #audioplugins. Still misses #VST3 and obviously #lv2

Has anyone heard about it? or even better tried it?

Not an #introduction but an #update since my old pinned introduction post was out of date.

I'm into #programming both professionally and as a hobby, in love with #RustLang like the rest of the universe.

Currently working on #synth stuff at Supercritical Synthesizers and a #CLAP / #VSTPlugin for my own my company on the side.

Other than that, I'm into #guitar stuff, #MusicProduction and #SoundDesign as my primary hobby, with #climbing and #gaming following close behind.
