For the past couple of weeks I've spent my evenings modding my Behringer RD-3.

It's a fun way to learn some basic #electronics

..and to get a cheaper Roland TB-303 ;)

Turned out pretty good and sounds even better!

Mods:

  • Lower cutoff
  • Hollow square
  • Filter overdrive deluxe
  • Rubber mod
  • Softer VCA attack
  • Higher resonance
  • PSU mod
  • Manual accent

I'll write a blog post about the process soon, but for now, here's an image

SocaLabs goes #linux! 🥳 https://socalabs.com/linux-versions-released/ #linuxaudio
Update: SocaLabs went Linux (long ago) and I wasn't aware that this is actually old news. 🫣😝

Added 8 #vst #plugins from Sinevibes to #linuxdaw now.

Will add the rest when they are ported as well.

These are really dope plugins, super kool that the developer is porting to Linux!

Check it out:

I really need one of those nifty breadboard power supplies but with +12/-12V rails for opamp circuits.

alf,
@alf@freeradical.zone avatar

@martijnbraam Interesting! Pardon me for asking, I'm learning about electronics, when I read the datasheet for the 1769205x41 module, it seems to ramp voltage down and not up? Maybe I'm just missreading it?

What would it take to make a breadboard power supply with regulation possibilities? ie, from 5-12 V :)

This weekend I made a custom setup for my new Zoom F3 recorder.

If you're interested I wrote a short article about it here

I would like to create a small #website as a starting point for #plugin developers who want to support #linux as a platform for #musicproduction. I plan to interview existing #linuxaudio #developers like u-he, TAL, AudioThing, Bitwig and others about this. Who of you would like to accompany and/or support me with this? 😊

alf,
@alf@freeradical.zone avatar

@amadeus I can help you to make the website, the technical stuff + hosting :) if you do the content/design? We could base it on VitePress which lets you write content as markdown (I just made my blog with this, abc.fractalf.net). If you wish we could also use a subdomain of linuxdaw.org since its kind of in the same ballpark (ie devs.linuxdaw.org)

A very interesting asks me about a recommendation for a with a super as a base to be able to reliably package their plugins for . What would you recommend? Maybe something like a or a or something more mainstream like a and probably running or ? They are completely new to but willing to go all in. ✨🌟

alf,
@alf@freeradical.zone avatar

@amadeus I would recommend any Lenovo laptop (easy to obtain and familiar) and Linux Mint (great starting distro)

A little bit of why and how.

Let me know if there is something more you wonder about :)

When I decided to move to Thailand, I sold almost my entire #studio.
As a kind of #consolation 🫣 I bought a bunch of #roland #boutique #synthesizer (s) (3) and #drummachine (s) (3).
Today I'm finally making #diy #stand (s) for them out of #local #thai #wood and #chinese brass tubes. 😎 #musicmaking #linuxaudio

Acacia wood side panels

@amadeus Nice m8! I love this part of having a small studio. Making custom stuff for all our babies <3 ..I find it just as fun as making music :D

I went to a performance yesterday together with about 1500 enthusiastic fans from all over the world, in the middle of the . I'm new to the genres around and not interested in doing mushrooms (unlike most of his fans, I suspect). 🤪😝 But I did enjoy quite a few of the tracks and the overall vibe a lot. 🥰😇 If only I didn't have stomach pain from my hernia... 🫣

@amadeus nice! they played in Thailand huh, that sounds great :) check out simons old school goa music "hallucinogen" also, he's called the mozart of psy trance ;)

I''m reading up on and being a visualized person I tried to visualize the relation between major and minor scales based on a lot of articles out there.

has a nice feature where you can layer clips, so this turned out pretty nice.

Green: Major scales
Orange: Minor scales
Grey: Their relative Major/Minor

Mayby someone else will find this usefull...

A small https://linuxdaw.org update..

Many times I wanted to quickly skim through some images in full size, but I couldn't! ..I got so annoyed in the end that I just started coding. Wasn't that hard actually, slightly tricky to get the mobile slide + zoom pinch stuff working, but i does now, at least good enough.

Small, but very handy upgrade!

Shout out to @amadeus for testing and general being very helpfull:)

Feedback is always welcome!

Attached a short video to demo the feature

alf,
@alf@freeradical.zone avatar

@amadeus

You mean you're not using the fork ? Recommended! :)

https://tenacityaudio.org/

..Muse Group has done some dodgy stuff

alf,
@alf@freeradical.zone avatar

@amadeus
Acoustica used to be my favorite on Windoze too! They had great noise reduction and good UI.

Yea, tenacity is (too me) mostly not having to use anything from Muse, but also I like the default dark theme

I came across today (https://micromusic.tech/) which is an app for creating presets based on audio samples. Awesome idea!

Same stuff what the new 2 is doing, but aparantly a bit different algorithm..

Which is really super awesome..

I wonder how much work it would be to make something like this and for and maybe event more generic than spesific synths?

I know my fair bit about but wouldn't know where to start on this one..

Big updates on https://linuxdaw.org !

Some new stuff I've been working on these past weeks..

[Collections]
You can now add apps/plugins to custom collections and if you want to - share with others!

[Ratings]
You can now rate apps/plugins to filter them/sort them.

[Menu]
I added a burger-menu to handle new stuff.

[User data]
User data is only stored in the browser. It can be exported/shared through compressed URLs.

Enjoy :)

Check out the video!

@consint @amadeus
Hey Consint, I really liked your music man! My kind of techno! What's your setup?

alf,
@alf@freeradical.zone avatar

@consint @amadeus

Sure, I'm not so active anymore, meaning I can't seem to make finished tracks, just fiddeling around ;)

Here's one I did a couple of years ago:
https://soundcloud.com/krussedulltunes/frykt-ikkje

..I'm more interested in techno these days, so I have some loops that I really should finish into some tracks soon..

My "old" setup was Linux, Bitwig + VSTs, but I've aquired a lot of hardware I'm now playing around with, so hopefully some sounds will come out of it :)

alf, to Musicproduction
@alf@freeradical.zone avatar

Today https://linuxdaw.org turned 1 year old, happy birthday :)

So I thought it was mature enough to mention on and it climbed up to the second spot for a short while. 10 seconds of fame ;)

Next feature I'm working on (cause it's something I need) is the ability to create "lists" or "collections".

While testing plugins, which I do all the time, it's nice to "bookmark" the ones I feel I really wanna use.
