It’s one traitor after another in the #AirForce lately…
“A U.S. Air Force intelligence analyst advocated publicly for a second Civil War, running a high-profile anti-government Facebook group—and at one point shared classified information he ‘likely’ got from the ultra-covert National Security Agency, according to investigators.”
>100 people convicted of participation in the #Jan6, 2021, #insurrection at the Capitol may have to be resentenced after a #FederalAppealsCourt Fri overturned a #sentencing enhancement used to help determine their punishments.
The decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit came in the case of retired #AirForce LtCol Larry R #Brock Jr, who had appealed his #felony#conviction of… [#obstruction]. #Trump faces the same charge.
The court, a panel of 3 Democratic appointees, did NOT overturn the conviction. But it said that a lower court judge erred in deciding that #Brock should face a stiffer sentence for “substantial interference w/the administration of justice,” ruling that the #penalty does not apply to #crimes committed at the Capitol.
≥100 people convicted in connection w/the #Jan6 attack have had their punishments shaped by that enhancement, & they could now ask to be sentenced anew.
That does not mean they would necessarily face lighter terms. Sentencing enhancements raise the suggested range of #prison time that a judge must consider. But in DC, judges have generally imposed penalties below those recommended ranges, & they have often said their punishments would be the same regardless of what enhancements they applied.
"They had to go to an air war. It was totally impersonal ... They don't see the damage, there's no relationship to what they do, their job, to people's lives." - Hal Muskat, in the documentary "Sir! No Sir!" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AOQvFPb7aU)
Originally brought up with respect to Vice CEO Bruce Dixon firing hundreds of workers using a memo generated by AI.
Obviously, relevant to a lot right now.
The documentary "Sir! No Sir!" continues to show how even the Air Force became a crucial accomplice in resistance, as pilots refused to drop bombs and analysts refused to produce intelligence from monitoring on-the-ground, sabotaging the ability of the US to run a bombing campaign before US withdrawal. "The Air Force was no longer a reliable instrument for carrying out the war." (See toot below for clip). A strong tradition. Rest in Power #AaronBushnell.
Russia's loss of a Beriev A-50 spy aircraft recently downed by Ukraine won't dramatically affect the distribution of forces in the Ukrainian sky but will likely force Russia's aviation "to behave more cautiously,"
Russia's A-50 aircraft provides several critical functions for the ongoing war in Ukraine, such as detecting air defense systems, guided missiles, and coordinating targets for Russian fighter jets. Russia only possesses nine of these planes
@sidereal@Rasta Affirmative. In my young adult yrs, I met a former prison guard who worked at 2 jails here, on Vancouver Island. Met him at my weed dealer's home. He was making lots of side $ by doing illegal drug sales to prisoners. Apparently a few guards were part of the smuggling drugs into jails team at the time (90s). Not sure what it's like now but it likely still happens a lot.
"Yeah, this is really traitorous activity," said Kinzinger. "This is a complete betrayal of the trust that the #UnitedStates of #America puts in you as president."
"Senators have many legislative and oversight tools to show their opposition to a specific policy. They are free to introduce legislation, gather support for that legislation and pass it. But placing a blanket hold on all general and flag officer nominees, who as apolitical officials have traditionally been exempt from the hold process, is unfair to these #military leaders and their families.
