Strange.

My laptop running FreeBSD 14.0-R-p6 locked up during resume - it's been years since I had this issue. Power cycled it, and now my wireless device won't show up. I think I'm too tired to debug now, will look at it in the morning. Bummer though, hope it's not a hardware failure due to resetting the laptop while the wireless device was being initialised.

I generally like #Signal and use it on both phone and #FreeBSD desktop - but this 'out of date' thing really pisses me off.

IMHO #Signal should do the same as #WhatsApp did with https://web.whatsapp.com/ and provide a web based client instead.

What alternative do You suggest? startpage.com? quant.com? Something else?

To be honest everyone is tracking everyone everywhere so I stopped to care and use duck.go because it is just so much more convenient as a search engine.

It seems to give me today better results then google.com and when I want to use other facilities/sites their 'bangs' - https://duckduckgo.com/bangs - described here.

For example:
!m sth - for search on google maps
!ya sth - for yandex.com search
!w sth - for wikipedia search

A little in a struggle currently....
I want to also setup a Hypervisor for my
Got a here with a i7 6700 and 32GB of RAM (Micro form factor).

Maybe I'm overthinking here a lot... but I try to hold down the electricity cost as much as possible.

At the moment the is at roughly ~35W

Would you guys/gals add a machine or would you rather not?

You can get Intel N100 based mini PC.

The Intel page says 16 GB RAM max but if You check Reddit and other forums the 32 GB RAM works just fine.

N100 has like 10 times smaller TDP then You current CPU (65W vs 6W) - so that should save You a lot RAM when your PCs will be in loaded state.

AMD Ryzen and AMD Embedded Ryzen CPU are also in similar TDP with 4-8 cores and even better RAM support - both in multichannel and ECC if you need it.

Another great example of differences in modern CPUs when it comes to performance and power consumption.

Ampere Altra Max delivers about half of performance of AMD EPYC CPUs while using only 1/3 of power.

The solution with worst TCO is Intel Xeon here with solution that is only about 75% as fast as AMD EPYC while Intel Xeon consumes 25% more power then AMD EPYC solution - not to even mention that Intel Xeon CPUs are more expensive then AMD EPYC solutions.

I would love to see a RISC-V CPU added to the test - like Milk-V Pioneer - the 64 Core RISC-V CPU for example.

Looking most of 'industry experts' the seem to 'cherish' #Intel as best CPU for any workload. Well guess what - you do not follow the facts at all - on X86 land #Intel CPUs are slower then #AMD CPUs - and take MORE THEN TWO TIMES MORE WATTS power for same workload then #AMD.

I find it disappointing.

The 'worst' one in usability was recognized ... also the one (GNOME) that wants to dump X11 in the place of broken Wayland.

... and yes - I have used GNOME lately for more then a year daily (work) so I know its far from usable/configurable.

Its GNOME way or GTFO ... even if its slower/less usable their way.

Idea proposal.

Currently this allows to rename dataset without unmount:

zfs rename -u pool/a pool/b/a

Proposal - the same but between two ZFS pools

zfs teleport pool1/a pool2/a

Not sure if possible - but would be very useful for keeping services running.
