For no articulable reason other than someone messaged me about the model, I decided to print and build another one of these little guys.

planning a trip to SoCal in which the doggy can’t join so I confidently suggested to my partner we take the train down…only to quickly learn that THERE IS LITERALLY NO TRAIN from the greater Bay Area to the greater LA area, the largest population centers in CA & 400 miles apart

Got an unexpected package from Amazon. I reported it as it may be 'returns dumping' (like brushing, but a non-US seller needs to get rid of returned stock b/c they have no mainland presence).
It's four RGB accent lights, so I tested them and sure enough one didn't work. Being handy, I opened it up, peeled the 'insulating' (ha!) tape off the board and, sure enough, a blackened blown capacitor and lots of magic smoke dust within.

2/2 So what's probably happening here is someone orders them, reports to the seller that they're broken. Seller says 'please return them' but doesn't indicate to Amazon they're defective (which would mean seller would have to take them back, not Amazon), so they go back in stock. Seller immediately (because FIFO) sends them to someone else. That someone being me in this case, probably they can send to me b/c I'm in Amazon's Vine program (and reviews show these lights were def offered via Vine).

3/2 The key here being that the seller doesn't want to physically receive them back because they have no US warehouse and it would cost them. Sending out to some Prime member means their problem just becomes my problem.

Apple is so goddamned hostile with its hardware. Their devices with NVME drives... don't have standard NVME connectors.; even the ones with the otherwise same form factor. They have the same signal lines, different connector. So if yours dies, take your credit card and go pray at the Glass Temple (until they stop selling parts for it) or hit the after-aftermarket and hope they still have one.

Don't ask me why I know or care about this as I try to boot from an external USB drive.

Just had Google Fiber installers come in and they were gushing about my setup. My wife and I laughed at this because we didn't think it was a big deal.
