🇦🇺 PM Albanese is likely to commit about $50 million for the #GreenClimateFund and a substantially larger sum for the Pacific Resilience Facility, and will continue to seek support for hosting COP31 in 2026. Australia will likely come under pressure for expanding coal and gas as Pacific nations stress the Port Vila Call to Action for a Just Transition to a Fossil Fuel Free Pacific.

The #MontrealProtocol meeting in Nairobi, Kenya concluded on Saturday. It continues making progress on Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) and in addressing #ClimateChange.

"decline in ODS emissions due to compliance with the Montreal Protocol avoids global warming of approximately 0.5–1°C by mid-century, with another estimated avoidance of 0.3–0.5°C warming by 2100 from the anticipated phase down of HFCs under the Kigali Amendment."

Researchers say Solar power expected to dominate electricity generation by 2050 – even without more ambitious climate policies.

Rooftop Solar PV, mainly residential, is already contributing 7.9% to Victoria's electricity grid, saving citizens money on power bills.

Decarbonising freight is critical to decarbonising the transport sector and meeting Australia's climate targets. ClimateWorks report on Delivering freight decarbonisation: Strategies for reducing Australia’s transport emissions.

"Three types of solutions to reduce freight emissions have been set out in this report. First, solutions that make trips shorter or reduce the level of transport activity. Second, solutions that shift freight to lower-emissions modes such as rail or e-cargo-bikes; these also offer major benefits in terms of reducing congestion on Australia’s roads as the freight task grows. Third, decarbonisation solutions can be achieved through improved energy intensity of vehicles and reduced carbon intensity of fuels. Enlisting a suite of solutions in an integrated way, can help Australia reach its emissions targets and also improve other outcomes, such as productivity and impacts on health and liveability"

Australia: A Progress report tabled in the Victorian parliament highlights that Victoria has doubled its renewable electricity generation in the last five years to supply 37.8 percent of the state's electricity grid. The state is well on target for over-achieving its 2025 target of 40 percent renewables. Victoria has set a 95% renewables target by 2035.

In 2022/23 in the state electricity grid Brown coal still predominates with 58.4%, followed by Wind power with 20.1%, Solar PV at 7.9%, hydro-electricity at 5.5%, large scale solar at 3.4%, gas at 3.3%, bioenergy at 0.9%. There is still much to do.

The majority of drivers are anxious about this manoeuvre, survey finds https://www.drive.com.au/caradvice/anxiety-about-parking-survey-australia/

@timrichards
Parallel parking often is the cause of holding up traffic and trams on in and . There are thousands of car parks in off street car parking close to Sydney Rd. Victorian State Government is dragging its heels in removing parking, implementing protected bike lanes, accessible tram stops and enlarging footpath space for pedestrians, cafes, and street vegetation making a more liveable, enjoyable shopping environment..

How Megafires Are Remaking the World (NYT)
"This incendiary age, which some scientists have called the could lead to “a wholesale conversion of what habitats are where on the planet,” Dr. Hodges said. “Right now, everybody is talking about fires and smoke and who dies, because of the immediacy of this fire year. But really, truly, the long-term consequences are much more severe and sustained.”
