Just to follow up on this media release. After the protest, at 2pm Labor MP Peter Khalil issued a statement on Facebook saying: “The role of gas should be limited to what is absolutely necessary for our transition to a low-emissions economy. Not one bit more.”

Protest works!

It appears the latest @thejuicemedia honest government Ad about Visit Tasmania with the Tasmanian Election being held on Saturday has pissed off someone. A Takedown notice has been issued by the Tasmanian Electorial Commission to remove it from X/FB/Insta for publishing a candidates image without their consent.

This youtube has been updated with the politician image blurred out.

Atlantic Ocean circulation nearing ‘devastating’ tipping point, study finds
Collapse in system of currents that helps regulate global climate would be at such speed that adaptation would be impossible.

Likely impact on Southern Hemisphere is it will get even hotter and wetter.

But lets just keep approving new coal mines and gas projects here in Australia. Lets expand use of carbon capture and storage to justify new fossil fuels, even though CCS is complex, seldom meets anything near capacity expectation targets, and is prone to leakage and issues of permanence.

takvera,
@takvera@c.im avatar

@CelloMomOnCars
Tidal Restoration is important and effective carbon sequestration and provides other environmental services. However there are challenges in accurate measurement, and in assuring permanence. This is especially likely with a warming climate and increasing #sealevelrise that may change rate of sequestration, or even release the carbon due to extreme events such as the 2016 Gulf of Carpentaria mangrove dieback.

https://www.jcu.edu.au/news/releases/2022/july/gulf-mangrove-dieback-discovery

#ACCUs or #CarbonOffset credits generated by this methodology should definitely not be used to offset Scope 1 and 2 emissions from new fossil fuel projects.
