I’ve finally decided to go with a meal delivery service. I have a company launch coming soon, and have foot surgery in 3 weeks and will have limited mobilty for 6 weeks. A fun linguistic phenomenon. I have never met a German speaker who can pronounce squirrel properly. On the flip side no English speaker will ever be able to pronounce Eichhörnchen

@MetalheadDana I'm a native english speaker and I don't know if I can pronounce "squirrel" properly. My US friends mostly just go with "skwhirl" but that won't do in my non-rhotic accent (hybrid of middle class English and Australian).

Falls ich "Eichhörnchen" sagen muss... nennt man die "Baumratten" auch auf Deutsch?

I don't mind "wasting" my time on things I enjoy: a walk; random Internet surfing; playing the one or other mobile game; staring at the wall, dreaming.

I'm annoyed when I lose time because my brain does not cooperate and instead runs in circles or because I miss a train or a bus - but I can bear it.

But gosh, do I deeply RESENT it when people waste my time by badly organized meetings: I am SO angry and SO furious.

HIVE MIND and also maybe BRITISH HIVE MIND, here is what I need, should you have any faves to proffer:

Obscure but hilarious British tv comedies that lasted 1-3 seasons and nobody could be bothered to pick them up for streaming except some dank corner of the streaming universe, like Roku Channel or whatev.

CRITERIA:

  • preferably TVMA or 16+
  • No laugh-tracks (this disqualifies most shows from being good and, frankly, is distracting and archaic and condescending as fuck)
  • not super-popular (basically if it's like Fleabag or Green Wing and on a mainstream streaming service and internationally recognized as brilliant, I will pretty likely have seen it
  • made roughly 2008ish to present
  • has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with Ricky Gervais
  • narrative storytelling e.g. NOT faux-documentary

My hot take on the Vision Pro is the same as my hot take on every AR/VR/Mixed Reality headset produced in the past checks notes 20 years: "If most women can't use your product for 4 hours straight without throwing up, don't try to tell me that it's the future of anything." I said what I said.

Women can use a smartphone indefinitely without nausea. They can use a laptop indefinitely. A gaming console and TV indefinitely. But XR headsets cause motion sickness in most women in under an hour. 🤷🏿‍♂️

@grimalkina I am trying to implement something of this sort at work (I'm a middle manager of R&D at a biopharma CRO). My mandate for the year is to find and eliminate bottlenecks and other inefficiencies. The hardest part so far is not driving change with evidence, but getting the initial buy-in to do the testing to get the evidence!

I can't tell if I'm having a depressive episode or merely being rational.

No matter where I look, terrible things are happening. The pandemic isn't even slowing down, much less winding down; horrible people are doing awful things that I can't stop them from doing; and it seems that the majority of people don't know and don't want to know that everything is going to shit.

Being angry and miserable is a perfectly reasonable response to the state of the world right now.
