I have just been informed that Plex has a bug where if you upload to your Plex server an album either credited to "Various Artists" or containing a mix of artists on each track, it will list that album in the UI as being by "KONAMI". This is apparently a known issue.

phi1997,

@mcc
I imagine that came from their many, many rhythm game soundtracks.

Hey so @Nifflas 's game "Uurnog" is on steep sale RN and I really highly recommend it https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@Nifflas/112520440316710187

IMO one of the most underrated games of the last decade, especially for those of you who are game medium deconstructionists. It's surface-simple but has a lot of strange, surprising thoughts about "what is a Video Game and how do you interact with it?" simmering just underneath… it's very good at finding ways that simple mechanics can combine in ways that really surprise you.

phi1997,

@mcc
Glad I followed this recommendation. I've barely started and it's already got me thinking. Just seeing what the other characters do has me thinking. Seeing one make a mistake that I avoided was fairly somber.

Tried out Maimai in the arcade room. I love that the evolution of the rhythm game genre has been to just make sillier and sillier control schemes.

phi1997,

@missingno
I do think it's important to bring up Chrono Circle: a game that looked at Maimai and asked "What if that ring of buttons could spin?"

phi1997,

@missingno
If you're looking for current arcade rhythm games in the US, then going to a Round1 is your best bet, aside from whatever gets brought to a convention, of course. They're the one Japanese amusement center chain that's expanded outside of Japan. You'll typically find current versions of DDR, Beatmania IIDX, Sound Voltex, as well as the aforementioned Chrono Circle and some Chunithm machines running old versions of the game.

As for fighting games, there are typically some Nesica cabs.

Would it be weird to learn Street Fighter 6 just so I can play as Marisa

phi1997,

@mcc
Seeing a cool character and wanting to play as them is a common reason to pick up a game.

Been thinking about getting some sort of Android tablet to read comics on, but worried my preferred feature set ("rectangular screen" "rectangular means the edges of the displayable area are ninety degree angles. that's not a rectangle" "cheap, like tablets were five years ago back when you could still get tablets with rectangular screens" "preferably not Samsung") might reduce the pool of available devices to zero

I got schmixed by baggage claim.

Meeting up with my roommate who’s on a later flight, no biggie I’ll just grab a bite to eat and kill time until he gets here.

Have to grab my bag first though, else I’ll lose it.

But now I can’t go back to all the restaurants behind TSA, one way trip. Thought there’d still be something else down here but nope.

help I’m starving

just look around, with H5N1

Now, everyone is so furious about OpenAI stealing a beloved celebrity's voice. But what about the many artists, writers/authors, and creators whose copyrighted works OpenAI stole to create works resembling and replacing those people's products? Not famous enough to generate the same outrage, right? At least now, everyone knows how bad Sam Altman is. He thinks he is above the law. I'm glad someone is standing up to this bully and I hope something good come out of it.

If you come into my mentions saying there are bigger problems than covid and treating it like a flu isn't the end of the world you will be aggressively told to educate yourself on the realities of covid (https://covidsafetyforschools.org) with a minimum of 8 slides from that course and if you then keep minimizing covid to me you will be blocked

The slides will show that an order of magnitude more children are hospitalized from covid than flu, that it kills way more than an order of magnitude people than flu does, that it's a vascular illness not a respiratory illness like the flu, which causes significant long term increases in potentially fatal cardiovascular events, that it causes likely irreversible neuron fusing which causes cognitive impairment, that it causes IQ drops cumulative with each infection, and that it greatly increases risk of developing alzheimer's and parkinson's disease

TL;DR if you're a covid minimizer and you like to follow me I highly suggest you keep it to your fucking self

phi1997,

@eniko
Saying Covid is the same as the flu makes zero sense even as a justification to not try to avoid it. Even if that was even remotely close to being true, getting the flu sucks.

Social media disappointments:

  1. Journalists are still actively participating at exTwitter, thereby actively supporting Musk, who is helping extremists bring down democracy and, by extension, a free press.

  2. Reddit got away with stomping its volunteer moderators and users, and its execs are cashing in on an IPO that in a more just world would have flopped.

  3. Writers I respect decided to stick with Substack despite arrogant, extremist-friendly investors and leadership.

phi1997,

@dangillmor
A common thread here is that people are doing what's easiest: staying where they already are.

If you have a homebrew-enabled Wii with GameCube controller ports (So not a later model or a Wii U), a GBA, and a GBA to GameCube link cable, you can use this tool:

If, for some reason, you somehow don't happen to have all those things lying around, you could buy one of these:
