I deleted my Patreon account yesterday. Not because of any concerns with their policies (though I have many), but because it was just impossible to fully update my profile to my real name.

The deletion will take up to 30 days.

After that, unless Patreon messes up their policies even more, making it morally impossible, I will make a new account, and will start patronning the artists I want to support again.

There's a very specific piece of gendered violence that the trans community rarely talks about, and which was inflicted upon us by WPATH (before WPATH was WPATH) and the APA, and which I will never forgive them for.

By requiring trans people to go stealth after transition, to pretend that there had never been a transition, by effectively making generations of us a shames of who we were, these organizations have robbed us of our elders. Of the people we can look to to see the future we...

Oh. Installing OpenSUSE on my laptop was pretty easy, pretty fast and looked pretty.

But it also didn't put Windows in the boot loader menu. And

I'm kinda too tired to actually spend time figuring out how to do that manually.

Giving Fairphone shit because while trying to build a long-term viable, sustainable and socially and economically fairer device they also think about the people in the real fucking world who are supposed to use them and offer them the software most of them rely on (like Google Apps) is more toxic purism than I can stand.

People who are willing to suffer in their life by using something different, something slightly incompatible to what the rest of the world uses already do install roms and run whatever on their machines.

Getting real actual people to buy a phone that's not built to be thrown away in a year of two, that highlights the values of sustainability is a huge win.

And making the medicine ("your phone might not be as fancy as your peers' phones") taste sweeter ("for 8 years you have access to all the applications you need for your life to function within a digital society") is just a smart move.

@tante I feel kinda sorry for them because since me and my wife have an FP4, we probably won't need to buy from them until they release the FP8. Yeah, google sucks. But the fairphone supports other os'es, too, even if society doesn't.

I strongly suggest everyone to move away from the fosstodon instance. Its admin @kev treats people who toot in a language other than English rather badly, which is doubly problematic considering this situation is dealing with toots posted in Irish - and anyone with even a modicum of understanding of history knows just how deeply problematic asserting English dominance over Irish really is. Telling @mairin who occasionally toots in Irish to "leave ffs" is... Oof.

In practice, this "rule" is used to censor people. Posts only get deleted if they are reported.

The one time one of my posts in Dutch was deleted was when I said something remotely controversial, like non-violent XR people being sentenced while violent Dutch farmers got a free pass.

Anyway, I should have moved instances, since I do want to post in other langages, but I've been too busy with and too sick with to actually do that...

Another anti-trans essay by Helen Lewis appeared in the Atlantic this morning. Lewis claims to be a moderate, but somehow only one side of the debate over trans rights are described as "activists" (and they're described that way six times).

    When anyone spends their resources making something and then gives it away for free they should be greeted firstly with gratitude. They should be greeted secondly with gratitude. They should be greeted lastly with gratitude.

    Too much #FOSS #OpenSource community rage and contributor burnout stems from a strange forgetfulness that no one has to contribute anything this way. It's always a wonder. Let's chill out and be a little more kind and a lot more grateful.

    @ryangorley Yeah. I've taken a long vacation because I just couldn't stand it anymore -- the people telling me they were really angry, pissed, ticked off or whatever because the free and open source application I maintain didn't do exactly what they needed, when they needed it, for free. "Oh, if your website had a review button, I'd give you zero stars! Because!"
