It's actually embarrassing that we're nearly 4 months post-release and #rust still hasn't been fixed on #musl 1.2.4.

vimproved,

@matzipan https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/106246 is the PR that would fix it, however it hasn't seen much activity.

Is there any way to turn off the hideous code editor/IDE on GitHub and just see classic code listings? This thing is slow, useless, and hijacks browser hotkeys.

vimproved,

@dalias
Any website that hijacks browser hotkeys is terrible. I constantly use the alt+n hotkeys in firefox for tabs, and now I have to move my hand to my mouse and click on another tab because someone at github thought this was a good idea. Even worse is Youtube where I'll go to change tabs and activate the seek hotkey instead, losing my place in the video as well.

i swear airports are designed specifically to be hell for people with sensory issues

vimproved,

i just got through the TSA and the sensory overload is starting to make me feel nauseous

quick note: I'll be migrating to @vimproved as soon as I can sign into this account on a computer. Thanks to the Treehouse admins for reviewing my application so quickly!

vimproved, to random

hopefully fosstodon doesn't start getting mass defederated by instances until after i get home from vacation and can migrate :/

vimproved,

(i accidentally deleted my GPG keys from my laptop like an idiot so now i cant use pass)

vimproved, to random

debating whether to spin up a single user instance for me to use or whether to request a treehouse.systems account. this whole fosstodon debacle is souring my mood, plus i'm not a big fan of the character limit

Alright, I'm thinking about readding the experimental app-alternatives/coreutils to vimproved-exp. Previously I only had GNU coreutils and Chimerautils as options, however I'm considering adding busybox and uutils. I'd just have to 1. Make a config check for busybox like app-alternatives/sh and 2. Fix uutils on musl, since it's masked atm. Any other complete coreutils implementations (either BSD or GNU compatible) that I could potentially add?

#gentoo

vimproved,

If I can get this working well I intend to do something similar for diffutils, findutils, sharutils, and other parts of the GNU userspace that are currently difficult to replace on #gentoo

vimproved,

The issue I was encountering before was that the custom coreutils ebuild that would install all the binaries suffixed with -gnu was that portage would spit out a bunch of errors after the unmerge but before everything got relinked in pkg_postinst. The best solution to this in my mind would be to put everything that portage needs to successfully link the binaries in UNINSTALL_IGNORE

vimproved,

but also, the problem with this type of thing is that it requires me to keep a copy of the original packages such as sys-apps/coreutils in my overlay, which increases the burden of maintenance since I need to track any changes to them in ::gentoo. Eventually it would be nice to see if I could get this to a point where it would be possible to get it in ::gentoo but I'm not optimistic

question for all the smart people of the fedded verse: my ISP-supplied router randomly decided it no longer wanted to work properly last week and randomly disconnects about once every thirty minutes for a minute or two. What would people here recommend as a replacement?

vimproved,

my router did it again immediately after posting this. i don't think it likes the prospect of being replaced

new systemd component: systemd-airstriked
simply run airstrikectl <x coordinate> <y coordinate> to automatically send an airstrike (courtesy of freedesktop-operated drones)
for convenience, systemd-airstriked integrates with the mastodon network to allow you to send an airstrike directly to a user's current location with airstrikectl @user@host

vimproved,

@mia
damn systemd is really marketing itself hard towards the U.S. Executive Branch recently

@roastveg
I doubt an LLVM-based elisp jit compiler would be accepted upstream. For one, the libgccjit implementation already exists, and GNU projects tend to want to exclusively support other gnu software

Does the fediverse have any recommendations on decent sounding, durable over-the-ear headphones?

Primary requirements:

  • Corded (or cord optional)
  • Around $100 USD

I've had two pairs of Soundcore Q30s disintegrate on me. I treat them nicely, but I apparently have a head that's destructively large.

#askFedi #askFediverse

vimproved,

@troublewithwords
I've had my pair of ATH-m50x headphones for about 3 years now, and they're still working despite probably like 18 hours per day of wearing them, and plenty of accidental drops. They might be a tiny bit over your budget but if you catch them on sale they'd probably be around $100-120

It’s great we’re not painting bike lanes like this anymore because WTF is this

vimproved,

@mdruker
my personal biggest gripe is when a bike lane just ends with no clear direction for where to go. like it was already bad enough that the bike lane was super narrow but now you're just throwing me into the road? really?

Fixing developer stupidity is NOT the responsibility of the end user....

Damn, it is your job to fix the damn thing and ship and reship.

If you see people promote sideways to the mistake, then don't listen to them in the first place.

vimproved,

@unixbhaskar
Unfortunately more developer stupidity would leak through to end users if it weren't for packagers making sure that doesn't happen. Some people are just too stubborn to act like adults when it comes to software

Alpine still uses GCC as its primary toolchain, so arguably Gentoo on the musl/llvm profile is less GNU

In no particular order:

Implement GPT
Implement FAT32
(both for EFI support, Simon Zeni is working on that)
Finish filesystem riggings
Implement pipes and finish up the shell
Boot out of the initramfs and into ext4

vimproved,

@drewdevault
Man, I wish I had the motivation and resolve to design an OS. Super impressive that you've managed to create both your own language, and a full kernel in that language
