Just closed 71 browser tabs from yesterday. That might be my accomplishment for the day.

troublewithwords,
@troublewithwords@wandering.shop avatar

@Vidyala @travisfw I'm cheating a bit. I'm on a new computer and just declared tab bankruptcy on my old on. Hundreds of tabs between multiple browsers. (I use different browsers for different tasks) Some tabs were open for years, linked to pages that no longer existed!

I'm trying to develop new habits, but I doubt if this one will stick.

troublewithwords,
@troublewithwords@wandering.shop avatar

@travisfw @Vidyala I admire your dedication! Which I was that focused.

I use a lot of transient tabs for research. One document will reference 80 things I need to verify and can close when I'm done.
My plan is to try to use bookmarks for all the other stuff, and keep my bookmarks panel open. We'll see if it works.

Maybe it's just because I'm an old computer toucher, but I don't as search engines questions. I input query terms. It's faster and more precise. (Or at least it used to be before search engines started ignoring search terms.)

I wonder if this is one of the reasons I bounce off of AI search so hard. Natural language search is worse in at least two ways.

Technophobic is a compliment when I say it. People are right to not trust products.

For my money, the most impactful scene in The Great Gatsby is in the denouement where she says “truly, he was a great gatsby” & what’s-his-name retorts: no, Daisy, he was THE great gatsby.”

I still get chills

troublewithwords,
@troublewithwords@wandering.shop avatar

@Binder It’s up there with the scene from The Godfather when he turns to his estranged son and says, “No, Luke. I am the godfather.”

Could we at least get a reliable grammar checker before we ask that grammar checker to diagnose cancer and perform law enforcement?

    Today I learned that the endocrine system, CAN bus, and old time pagers work roughly the same way, pumping the system with messages that can be seen my everyone but are supposed to only be picked up by the addressee.

    This is not a useful analogy for anyone but me.
