So I assume that everyone see that WIX fired an employee who expressed concern over the genocide in Gaza.

why do white people get so upset over Indigenous, Black or other racially marginalised peoples' criticism of Mastodon. We just voiced an opinion based on our experiences. We didn't kick you dog, or steal your nana's purse. Get over yourselves

@KarenWyld so as a white person, firstly I'm sorry.

Secondary, the problem is entitlement. They didn't build this for anyone but themselves. Forgetting that if you are doing something for a community is for everyone in the community. Please don't see this as a excuse it's merely my experience.

Also some white people are bigots, they try and hide it well. Say and do all the right things but the minute they are alone the racism runs out of them like a broken dam.

The Zulu and Xhosa have a word Abalungu* which is used as slang for white people doing white people things. And I get to use it everytime I'm in a checkout queue. Thank God for online grocery deliveries. I don't need to deal with idiots in the shop.

@professorhank I'm so for the collapse of society. But it's going to be the poor and destitute that are going to suffer first and most. And the world governments are going to be reactionary at best.

As much as I try to be there for her, I know it's not the same talking with someone who hasn't been her shoes.

@wolfeh I'm in SA I could possibly put you in contact with someone who can help with the disability. Depending on the circumstances. And I can put you in contact with trans folk. And in touch with a transcharity in Cape town. So it really depends on where you are.

Me at the pharmacist asking what recreational drugs I can use. Suddenly everyone is super busy, silence descends. All the jobs are near our around the counter.

Psilocybin is the only possibility. Not my favourite but I need to get out of my head for a bit. Will have to come off the anti depressive for a couple days before.

Comical roulette with my brain.

I watched season 1 of Copenhagen cowboy on Netflix.

It has a really good user score on rotten tomatoes. I think their is a story in their somewhere. The art visuals gets real boring real fast. I think they could have cut 2 episodes if they just cut down on the time spent with the artistic shots and lights. It keeps threatening to get good but it never does.

Don't think season 2 will be for me. Glad for those who enjoyed it but really not for me. It actually might make a decent anime with a bit of a rewrite.

Icelandic "skyrta" is almost the exact word as the English "shirt". Ignore the y/i and the simple rule of thumb is that "shi-" if English is "ski-" in Icelandic. You can use this information to understand the Icelandic word "skip".

In Icelandic we call excrement "skít(ur)". It is not considered a dirty word (except that it means dirty - a dirty dish is "skítugur diskur").

BTW. Through Norse influence the word "skyrta" was absorbed into English as "skirt".

@oligneisti I enjoy some Nordic Noir and a couple Icelandic shows popped up on my Netflix recommended section.

I'm obviously watching with subtitles, but there are parts where the actors talk so fast it all sounds the same. I can't believe that Icelandic people can understand each other.

I did enjoy the shows.

@ItsTrainingCatsAndDogs Cusses is such a foreign word for me. We're use swearing which is probably even more strange for those who use the word cusses.

Cusses makes me think of cowboys or Southern Belles in their hoop skirts and parasols. It's weird what the media you consume leads you to create images based on words even though you know that the person who said the word is nowhere near what you are thinking. They were probably from this century. And probably not a cowboy/cowgirl

Pedestrians, please stop scurrying across the street just because you see a driver waiting to turn. You have every right to be in the crosswalk and to walk at a pace that is comfortable for you. The driver can wait their turn.

@transbay PSA not a world wide rule. When I was driving in Canada I was like why are all these pedestrians just acting like it's their right of way. It was clearly a thing so just went with it. I was also driving on the wrong side of the road for me so was being super careful. It was Edmonton in the summer so the whole city was dead quiet.

My father-in-law was later like oh yes that's thing here. He also then told me that you only need to yield at stop signs if you are turning right. I probably upset a driver or two that day.

I really think that they should have something like that on a document you get when entering a country.

Although coming to South Africa the document will say something like driving here is like a mix between the fast and the furious and Mad Max. I joke it's not really that bad but our roads are dangerous and some people drive way over the speed limits.

Took my kids roller skating today. Somehow I thought I would glide around the rink like when I was 12. That so didn't happen. I have a swollen wrist and elbow. I look like I have a mummy's arm.

Anyway I had fun. 15 had fun 12 not so much. I think I need to get fit and loose some weight before I go again.
