There's already a crowd here at MacArthur station to say farewell to our legacy BART cars.

Happy Transit Employee Appreciation Day! Please take a moment out of your day to thank your transit operator other transit employee you may come across. It will brighten their day.

Always an interesting exercise when we need to correct the grossly incorrect recollection of the police on the traffic laws they are supposed to be enforcing.

Today, the San Francisco Municipal Railway (@sfmta_muni) joins Bilbo Baggins in the small club of those who can celebrate their “eleventy-first birthday” (as Bilbo termed it). Unlike Bilbo, Muni managed to reach this milestone without the life-prolonging side effect of Isildur’s bane, the One Ring. On this day 111 years ago, Muni commenced streetcar service on its first line, Geary Street... https://www.instagram.com/p/C1aeDvnyOjV/

As happy as I am that we are starting to see an inkling of accountability in more states for the people who participated in the "fake elector" schemes, may I make a small request? The word "fake" does not convey quite the gravitas that such a serious, democracy-busting crime deserves. I have instead been referring to them as "fraudulent electors", and it would be nice to see news outlets use a similar term in their reporting. Because that is what they were seeking to do: defraud the American people. https://www.reviewjournal.com/news/politics-and-government/nevada/nevadas-six-fake-electors-indicted-ag-ford-says-2960407

The coyote was clearly trying to tell us something. "Close this freeway, then tear down this appendage whose only purpose is to dump thousands of cars on city streets. I can help you with the first part." https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/coyote-stops-traffic-i-280-san-francisco-hour-18525483.php

It's frustrating to see Muni characterizing pedestrian/shared streets as "street closures." Language matters, and an agency charged by city charter with implementing a transit-first policy should not adopt the language choices of motorists. https://www.sfmta.com/blog/whats-next-hayes-street-weekend-street-closure

@pootriarch Never read the comments!

California government/elected officials:

(i) On September 9, 2020: "Climate change is the existential crisis of our time. We must act with urgency."

(ii) The rest of the time: "Just one more lane to turn our traffic-choked road into a field of poppies."

Getting an early start to beat the heat and (hopefully) find a playable piano in Golden Gate Park.

transbay,

The Stow Lake piano doesn't quite subscribe to typical tuning but it is playable...

transbay,

But I don't recommend playing music in E major or B major that uses a lot of keys in high registers.

Pedestrians, please stop scurrying across the street just because you see a driver waiting to turn. You have every right to be in the crosswalk and to walk at a pace that is comfortable for you. The driver can wait their turn.

transbay,

@timrichards @scott I do the same, if crossing or seeing someone make a prohibited turn against a red light. Drivers (the human ones, at least) are surprisingly responsive to it.

transbay,

@kristinHenry I've also had two very close calls now with the autonomous vehicles. Someone reprogrammed their algorithm I think to promote more aggression, or at least so it would appear.

Just left the office and it's STILL hot at 8:00 pm. We need Karl(a) to return from their vacation.

Came across a traffic cone right by my apartment, a circumstance for which I believe San Francisco's transit-first policy creates a duty to search for an autonomous vehicle on which to unleash the cone prior to turning in for the night.

If the United States federal government does shut down as it appears likely to do, just remember that it is 100% within the control of Kevin McCarthy, the weakest Speaker of the House in modern (and perhaps all of) American history, to avert, except that he cares less about the American public who will suffer the consequences of his decisions than he does about keeping his job as Speaker -- a job, which, by the way, he is not even entitled to because it depends on illegal GOP-gerrymandered maps that are currently being struck down and ordered redrawn one by one in the courts, in sufficient numbers that his very slim majority would have been erased had fair maps been drawn in the first place.

Remember this in the next election, and make sure your friends and family remember this as well.

Good thing I have an N95 with me anyway... originally for use indoors given elevated COVID levels in wastewater, but now dual purpose.

transbay,

@kristinHenry It definitely makes a difference. My respiratory system is sensitive on good days, so it's better not to take chances.
