I had a disciplinary meeting with my manager and was able to use my debate skills I honed online into real life. I called her a Russian troll, then owned her with a meme of soyjak saying “Your performance is lackluster” and Chad saying “No.” As security was removing me, I told her to go touch grass.

PamPortlandWriter,

@StefanThinks
Sassy! I didn’t realize you filled the spot I vacated bc I think we had the same boss.

I would love to blog but I am not sure what content to blog about. I do love music and tech ...

Maybe I could I blog about those two things.

#blogging #tech #music

PamPortlandWriter,

The suggestion from @cliffwade is ideal. I’ve been blogging for 12+ years and I rely on a lengthy list of topics to post regularly.

If you don’t have a solid plan, starting by contributing to another site gives you a great chance to get your feet wet without having to put pressure on yourself to post on a regular basis.

You can always tag me if you have blog Qs.

🆕 blog! “3,000 blog posts!”

This is the 3,000th blog post I've published on this site! Bloody hell! I first started a blog on Blogger.com in 2004 - twenty years ago. Like all blogs, I managed half a dozen posts before I forgot about it. Cut to 2007 and I decided to launch shkspr.mobi as a weird site dedicated to […]

Good for you! I’m one blog post away from 700. I started on blogspot.com in 2011. Can’t wait to hit 1K, much less 3,000. W O W !

As long as the weather cooperates, I’ll be pulling my kids out of school next Monday to drive east into the path of totality during the solar eclipse.

Do you have #eclipse plans?

March 13: Do (e.g., ) inspire you?

I love these casual chats, as long as people actually chat. Every nugget can lead to an idea. I welcome the inspiration!

🎺 @johnhowesauthor for his daily inspiration! 📯

I’ve been co-hosting the weekly chat on Bluesky (and X before that) for three years. If you’re over there, come join us. I’m a fan!

Writers chatting about stuff in #WritersCoffeeClub have helped me have an insight into my block around fiction writing and how to feel motivated to get back into it.

As I had to be a pretty independent kid and young adult, with undiagnosed AuDHD, I found many social situations puzzling. This may be the basis of why I hesitate to write drama and dialogue. I think I've found ways to move past that.

Thanks to @Maker_of_Things @PamPortlandWriter @nillyrobot
for helping me think this through.

PamPortlandWriter,

@srfirehorseart
Thank YOU for these kind words and for sharing your gift for writing with the world.

And let’s pay it forward with a kind word, too, for @johnhowesauthor who gets the #WritersCoffeeClub conversation started every day.

People keep telling me blogging is dead / dying / for old people, but I'm still enjoying it a lot.

If you'd like to join the April A to Z Challenge, here are some reasons:

🌞 A lot of bloggers join, and we all visit each other through April (and beyond)

🌞 People do fascinating themes

🌞 I always come across a lot of blogs I would not have found otherwise, and topics I didn't know could be so interesting

PamPortlandWriter,

@TarkabarkaHolgy
I love this creativity, but given the nature of my blog, I’m not sure it will work for new content, but…

I try to post links on social everyday to existing content on my blog. I think I can figure out a way to incorporate this idea into my posts and supplement any missing letters with two or three new posts.

Sounds like fun!

PamPortlandWriter,

@CoinOfNote @TarkabarkaHolgy

1/2: As best I can tell, it’s up to each blogger to post their theme on their own site through the 16th to build excitement about your daily posts. There’s also .jpgs and embeddable code available for your use. Looks like you can also tag the organizing blog for more coverage.

Thoughts on chapter length. What's a chapter?

Chapter lengths vary. I like to tell a chunk of story and each chunk has a rhythm to it, an arc. Once that arc is finished the chapter finishes. It's usually five to eight thousand words.

#WritingCommunity #writing

PamPortlandWriter,

@golgaloth
This is a good estimate. I recently revamped my WIP to move chunks of backstory around for the flow, but also to more closely align the lengths of the chapters. Many now fit in this range. #WritersCoffeeClub

#WritersCoffeeClub #17Feb How much of yourself is in your MC, or do you never write this way?

I always tell people my FMC and I both moved to Wyoming to work for the Forest Services and that’s where the similarities end.

Except that’s not exactly true. We’re incredibly similar. Freakishly similar. Yeah, we’re the same person.

What about you?

LinkedIn is an endless feed of shitty ads written by people you met once at a conference 5 years ago.

And that's when it's good.

@Daojoan Correct.

Although I recently found two settings I like: a chronological feed and turn off all suggestions.

The help is helping.

#WritersCoffeeClub #Writing 05 Is it okay to use a preposition at the end of a sentence? Well, is it?

Silly me I didn't even know there was a pseudo-rule like that.
What's more, I only have a vague idea of what a preposition is.
(I think I just ended those a sentence with one.)
My grammar checkers don't scream about them so I have never worried or thought about it one way or the other.
I think I would rather fight about split infinitives, which my grammar checkers hate.

Summary: I am sure I use them at the end of sentences, just as if I had spoken them.

PamPortlandWriter,

@NaraMoore
Narrator: Nara did not end a sentence with a preposition. If so, it would certainly give the grammar checkers something to scream ABOUT.

#WritersCoffeeClub #10Dec What aspect of your work are you most proud of?

I’ll say my blog/website. Yes, I feel triumphant each time I finish a novel, but the blog continues to grow after 12 years. It features all my public work (even my novels) and the fact that I’ve stuck with it after all this time makes me proud of my commitment to the activity|hobby|creative endeavor that I enjoy.

My readership is practically nil, so this is really a labor of love for myself and the life I’ve lived.

#WritersCoffeeClub Nov 20:

Do you have an author’s website just for promoting your writing?

I do! I started it as a blog in 2011, but now I have a website that gets refreshed every couple years. I’m rather proud of the site (much more than the visitation stats).
It’s PamPortland.org. Pretty simple, huh?

"For me, Mastodon and the so-called 'Fediverse' are rewinding the clock on social media in the best way possible. Its usage is more intuitive on both the publishing and subscription side without a big-A Algorithm deciding what your see. If you found utility using early Twitter and early Facebook, then you’ll instantly find Mastodon a more pleasant and intuitive experience."

PamPortlandWriter,

@design_law @chrlschn I like your optimism, but I’m not 100% onboard yet. I’m learning Mastadon, BlueSky, Threads, and Reddit all at once, so I’m struggling to find the best fit just yet.
