I stopped using facebook more than a year ago, and this year I have been deleting my posts in a daily exercise of excising my memories from that ghastly platform.

Today, out of curiosity, I had a quick count: my feed was 90% "for you", "follow", "join", and 10% posts from people in my circle of friends.

I don't know if my friends don't post anymore, or if the algorithm prefers not to display their posts.

The result is the same: is utter shit.

Occasionally I revisit Facebook and I can find my friends' posts but it takes more effort than it used to.
The site will show me more of whatever/ whoever I last viewed rather than a bit of everyone I followed. If I search for friends I see more of them.

The constant suggestions to join more groups and add more people is quite off-putting.

  • feeling better today, enough that I was able to do some gentle exercise in the morning

  • the sun came out in time for me to sit outside. I drank a mug of tea, put out more bird seed, cleaned and attempted to sharpen a couple of garden tools. Then I did some weeding.

  • put another clean sheet in the airing cupboard

  • made some doodle art. This started as a mark making experiment and sort of evolved into some comic strips. I quite like the end result so I may do more.

  • took things easy as Im feeling a bit rough again today. I had a nap after breakfast. Chatted to a friend on the phone but kept the call short. Took breaks to relax in bed.

  • it was damp and cool this morning, and mainly cloudy this afternoon, which kept the temperature mild all day. My short walk caught a bit of sun in the evening but I still wore a jacket anyway.

  • my grocery delivery came with only one substitution and one shorter life item. The birds are provided for too as I got a new large bag of seeds.

  • a friend called and chatting with them helped me summon up some energy for my evening walk

  • eating more fruit seems to be good for my digestion. I'm usually a bit reluctant to snack on fresh fruit but I had a banana and a pear with my lunch and it was good. 🍐

  • got washed and dressed today (yesterday was a pajama day)

  • made myself a new dish for lunch: smoked haddock and baked egg (in a white sauce) with rice. I was quite pleased to finally have a reason to use my sauce whisk to help stir the lumps out of the mix.

  • did some weeding. It's damp and overcast today, which makes it easier for me to uproot some weeds

Great book covers sell good books. Book shop browsers are always drawn in by an intriguing cover.

It's worth remembering that some of us (readers) are visually tuned in and may be oblivious to reviews when we're scanning the shelves.

  • got a decision re weekend plans

  • inspired a friend to vote and went out to vote myself. Rewarded myself with a takeaway on the way home and fortunately had a mostly dry walk there and back

Local elections take place on Thursday 2nd May in England and Wales. Remember to bring some appropriate ID.

In case you're tempted to skip voting, remember that the government love it when we're conflicted, put in a joke vote or abstain. That's how Brexit became a reality.

Voting changes this. Maybe just a bit but better than leaving the way clear for fascists.
