I agree with Kenan Malik; behind the increasingly instrumental view of university education (that it should be judged by what it does for your subsequent career & earning potential), lies a class-based assessment of who should benefit from education at all.

The working class do not deserve the humanistic value of education but rather must be trained in work skills... while the privileged should be able to buy the benefits of enlightenment!

I've been using the Chromium browser for certain websites, and that's about to end.

Google's greed-fueled moves -- this time to disable vital extensions that provide better privacy and security -- are unacceptable to me.

The stakes here are quite high. If Google succeeds what it's attempting to do -- forcing us to use only Google-approved privacy and security choices -- we're in trouble.

Firefox looks like the best way forward at this point.

The Trump jurors will be in real danger forever. If I were one, I'd consider telling my employer, family, and friends that I wish I were a Trump juror bec. they get to go home, but that my trial isn't over yet – and then keep "going to court as usual" for a few more days and just hanging out in a coffeeshop.

@msbellows Wisdom. I served on a grand jury in Manhattan, and it lasted months. And I'd definitely earned a few extra weeks off to decompress when it was over anyway. So extending that time off with a nice illusion, taking a few long days at the Film Forum or catching a Cyclones game at Coney Island, is also good opsec as well as a psychological necessity.

I know there are more important things happening in the world right now, but we went out for a big family dinner this evening at a really high end Indian restaurant, and my wife is furious with her mother for asking them to make her a chicken tikka masala, pouring it all onto her plate, tipping a whole bowl of rice on top, then mixing it up and eating it like a toddler. I cannot tell you how funny I think this is.
