People on Twitter are debating whether a person using uncommon words like "delve" are trying to sound smarter than they are, or worse, are ChatGPT bots, because "normal" people don't talk like that.

You don't have to get upset, or embroiled in the debate. Not worth the time or attention. But I'll share some important context as your friendly neighborhood Nigerian 🙋🏿‍♂️

Many Nigerians have bigger English language vocabularies and better command of grammar than the typical American or English person

@mekkaokereke I'm struggling as to why anyone thinks those are uncommon as well. Going through school in the US, some of these are the kinds of words we'd have as weekly vocab both in grade school and high school that we'd even talk about being surprised they entered our own vernacular, and enjoyed their usage. It boggles that people think "delve" is too 'fancy'.

I get suspicious of trends over on Twitter frequently, and this is no different, that it feels sparked by malicious anti-intellectual blathering with the veil of "is it like chatGPT" as a foil for some intent. I hadn't considered "racism" as the reason though until this thread, and it sure fits like a snug puzzle piece! :kay_frustrated:

We really need to break SV culture of the attitudes of things like "If you don't want Google to use your wifi for location tracking data, you need to put _optout at the end or else we'll just harvest it when we drive past" and "If you don't want Bing to use your info for AI you must add this string to your robots/meta/etc", and having to do it again and again for every damn company that pops up to harvest it, and make them absolutely terrified to do anything like that.

I've no clue how. =/

Hi Fedi! What's a good self-hosted electronic cookbook? (Or cloud, if you prefer.) I've been using Nextcloud Cookbook since I can easily use my own photos but it's ehhh.

Preferred features include:

  • notes section for extra info
  • easily sharing recipe links for guest access
  • ability to paste a list of ingredients to then organize and edit
  • ability to paste a list of steps to then organize
  • ability to import recipes from URLs
  • options for printing, eg turning on/off images/notes

Your irregular reminder that if your friend on Discord sends you a message like "Hey are you busy?" or "I filed a ticket on you on accident" -- that's not your friend messaging you. Your friend likely fell for the same scam, and now their account has been compromised.

The current insidious trend is acting as if an accidental "account compromised" ticket was filed, when it wasn't, with a fake support account to message.

Discord will only accept support tickets through web, not dubious chat.

"veteran sysadmin" is a fantastic way to tell on yourself

it's just one of those very generic terms, and nearly every time I see it is alongside the person internalizing the memes of being jaded, evoking the "loaded gun next to my printer" vibes but literally, becoming fundamentally incurious, learning anything new is beneath them.

Not saying there aren't but like, usually something more like "veteran security" or "veteran server wrangler" that either is specific or takes itself unseriously?

Your periodic reminder to check apps authorized on your Mastodon account!

To do so, go to Preferences->Account->Authorized apps, and delete any you aren't using anymore, including old entries for mobile apps.

If you use push notifications via ntfy, your server is trying a push for each time you've set that up. Deleting a related entry stops that, which can help reduce how often your server is rate-limited by ntfy, since it applies to your entire server, not just you. @feditips

What's that? It's a bat! @lupomancer is ready to flap around whether in fluffy plush softness or squeaky sleekness!

Finished texturing with height mapping for stitching and latex seams including glued overlaps and appropriate plastics for the eyes and claws. ^^ Really happy with how this turned out!

Also, forgot to share, progress from last night! I'm not 100% happy with the face mask portion but can refine. I'm also gonna re-do the spots most likely using the Path Brush tool and toying with the jitter options til I get a result I like. Worked pretty well on the tail I think! #SubstancePainter #VRChat

The completed work on making @lupomancer an inflatable latex hyena last night during the stream! Glued-on spots raised in height, panel overlap seams from the panels of latex glued together, and a proper sheen to fit with the final result! Really happy with how this turned out!

Still gotta figure out hiding the valve properly when clothes are on -- maybe I'll default the avatar to squeaky with a toggle to turn it off.

The leg panels can better be seen here too, as well as the feetpaws, which are done to be like dipped sock-style footpaws glued to the rest of the suit just like the handpaw 'gloves' were.
