I've been posting a lot less. I do want to say something I think is really important for elections, there's big ones coming up in #UK & #US.

67.3% voted in the 2019 UK #GeneralElection.
66% voted in 2020 US #election.

A third of the populace don't vote. Many of them feel politics is just a tool for the rich and powerful, or don't see how it affects their life, are persuaded by apathy and 'nothing really changes', and many also are turned off by the divisions.

Libtard & Snowflake being yelled by 1 third, Nazi and Fascist being yelled by the other third, and a third just check out & wash their hands of it all. Typically those people are not on the #Fediverse and will need to be engaged elsewhere, often more successfully in day to day life, by asking questions and listening.

It's important to speak to non-voters in language they can accept. Things do get worse when we don't vote. Engaged voterbases have better outcomes. Not only will politics shape how most parts of society we take for granted either continue or decline, but also how humanity survives coming challenges (tolerably, badly or or barely at all).

Voting has a direct impact on everyone's day to day life, our healthcare, our age care, our disability care, our childcare, our emergency care, our grocery & utility bills, our kids education, our illness & maternity cover, our pay & working conditions, how safe our food air and water is, and how much everything costs our families.

We forget often how much is spent on getting people to not vote.

Nothing works.
They're all the same.
It's pointless.
No politicians care.
And the ever present the super cynical funding of "biden is old" and "starmer is a redtory".

I literally don't care at all about that shit.
My local labour candidate will be less likely to vote to take meals away from poor kids than my insane ERG fantasist conservative MP. Will vote for better legislation vs will vote for worse legislation.

I'm not hurting chances to remove my local Tory, to make some obscure fail protest against labour leadership, that will only be understood as, drift more right-wing to get more wins.

#LetsTalkAbout how did #GeorgeGalloway get shock #byelection win in #Rochdale Labour safe seat?

#Labour took a minus 44% swing having suspended their own candidate over comments on #Israel & #Gaza.

#Galloway won by campaigning on Gaza ceasefire discontent and dissatisfaction with Labour's lack of socialist policies mostly, but also campaigned against trans rights wokeness etc in parts of the constituency. Showing a much more sophisticated micro targeting & granular political machine than most independents can ever muster/afford.

Nominally pro-gaza pro-Muslim Galloway also received support from radical islamaphobe, far right white nationalist Nick Griffin. Which makes absolutely no sense what so ever.

Unless you put stock in factoring they are both the sort of extremist divisive agitators that #Moscow & #Putin seeks to support in driving wedges in to democracies.

The sad loss for the people of Rochdale was decent local independent #DavidTully with a normal independents low level election machine and backing only came in second place. After being entirely ignored by mainstream media, as a decent not inflammatory candidate with integrity that doesn't bait clicks.

Galloway, called a divisive grifter by some & regular on #RussiaToday channel, will doubtless continue to get completely outsized media coverage as an 'exciting figure' that generates views. Many politicians and commentators are already using this upset to 'prove' the UK electorate support some version of their personal views.

My personal views are this demonstrates #Westminster and #Media are failing voters.

Voting is harm reduction, not the search for the messiah. You always vote, and vote pragmatically to prevent the most shitty candidates from winning.

All of those so important issues you have with the pragmatic choice, well you get off your ass and push for movement on those very issues and policies during the term. Democracy isn't only voting. It's organising, talking to representatives, protesting and talking to donors like big companies.

Trump will happily let genocide happen to all of Ukraine, and people all across the USA too, maybe even you, and anywhere else frankly. He doesn't care, he's not capable of it. He won't care about genocide in Gaza either. It's a convenient situation for Moscow, so Trump's likely to make Palestine worse.

Every president the USA has ever had will have some blood on their hands. But that has been tempered by a definite framework of things they will and won't do.

Trump can & will do unthinkable things, casually. To US citizens as well as anyone else. The women, the girls, the children, the non-whites, the non-christians, the non hetero males, the non-republicans.

And you'll likely need a serious civil war to get democracy back.

You are sounding like you need the data I've provided to not be true. Hence you want to quibble about figures for eating protocols. Like is it 6 times better, or 8 times better etc. It's better is the point.

Exact figures will always depend on the individual, the before diet, the protocol diet, and the cancers in question. The data supports wfpb being better, far far better.

If you want me to throw out 15years of in depth nutrition research in favour of your position you have to bring more to the table than calling my position bullshit and saying you spent a few minutes on pub med.

If you bring me some studies showing people on a healthy diet had their blood drawn and tested for efficacy in vitro against cancer cells, then they were moved to a Standard Americanised Diet, blood drawn again and the S.A.D. diet gave them massively enhanced cancer cell fighting blood, which returned to baseline after going back to - then that would be something to balance your position with some credible data.

Mushrooms appear to have unique nutritional benefits not replaced by eating other food. I'm preserving here some self motivation for simple mushroom dishes.

Put wholewheat pasta or noodles on.

Sliced mushrooms into a large pan or wok.
big glug of tamari or soy sauce. (the savoury umami taste makes the mushrooms excellent)
can add sliced chilies, ginger garlic spices etc.
cover with lid, want it to stay liquid.

Add stirfy veg towards the end it will contribute more tasty liquids too as it cooks if covered.

Fresh mushrooms release a lot of liquid, but they also absorb some liquid back in over cooking duration too. Meaning spices, herbs, tamari, veggy flavours etc all combine to give them a rich layered taste when the mushrooms have plenty of liquids available.

Lift the mushroom + veggies with a slotted spoon / spatula etc so they dress the pasta and salad but don't make it totally swim with too much juices.

Here's the meal assembled. Pretty quick to make, very tasty, and really healthy.

If you're allergic to mushrooms, you can do the similar by replacing the mushrooms with lentils. Especially green, black, brown types that will keep more structure. Give them some cooking time and have a kettle of boiled water handy (or steal from your pasta pan etc) as the lentils will need a bit of time to swell up with enough available liquids, tamari spices etc before you add the veggies at end.
