I signed with a new agent and spent the last 5 months on a major restructure of a maximalist ecofiction novel imperfectly disguised as a contemporary workplace comedy. #WIP Hollywood has taken over casting for a televised mission to Mars. It’s back up to over 400 pages and my agent is going to be so mad when I finally turn in this draft. Just need to untangle the final 50 pages, which is why I’m playing here. Procrastination is part of the process.
I really want to love this more than I am as it works up.
I'm really hoping like, more progress and blocking works miracles.
It's the same yarn as the pattern, but idk, it looks SO messy and blaaaah to me. Maybe I'm just too close to it. And maybe the yarn will really look great after blocking.
I'm just unhappy with this yarn. Maybe steaming will help, but I didn't realize it was single ply (my fault) and I'm worried about the longevity of the garment. I'm careful with clothes, but also I have a super affectionate dog.
Spending hours knitting a fingering weight cable garment for my fat-self only for it to pill and not look good shortly after finishing seems... like a waste of time?
I contacted the dyer. She actually offered to buy back any unwound skeins (which was nice considering we're well past her 10 day return window). But I've already wound most of them so I think I'll just try and destash a SQ of them all. Someone else may love this yarn!
She's going to custom dye me this same color on another of her bases. This one's a 4 ply 85/15 Merino/Nylon with a soft feel and nice drape. I think it will work much better.
I was totally just going to go with that beautiful green color if she couldn't do me a custom one cuz GOOD LORD that's pretty. But I really am in love with that warm brown for this shrug. It'll be a few weeks, but I'm excited to love this project, finally.

#PennedPossibilities 326 — Do any of your characters have a favorite place that they've ever visited?
Characters in both "Bayou Fire" and "Pompeii Fire," as well as my current #wip, are travel writers. I've never really considered whether they have a favorite place that they've visited, if I'm honest ... but I suspect sentimental attachments to particular spots all the same. #nospoilers
I took yesterday as a mental health day. Sent the toddler to daycare then spent the rest of the day making happy little trees, ordering cheap Chinese takeout for lunch, and binge watching #StarTrekProdigy. This is about 12 hours worth of work to get to this point. Finishing the basing and painting should take 2 to 3 hours. Not sure how long the foliage will take. I also need to figure out where I'm gonna store them...
Work continues on the forest. I've finished adding the sand to the bases, and coating them with mod podge. I've painted the trees with a chocolate brown, and then roughly added some green onto them.
Next steps will be to go over it with a light brown then a final highlight of antique white. After that I'll decide if it needs another dark wash and final highlight.
I'm really loving this color combination these days. Life is short, so I'm going to play with the colors I want to play with when I want to play with them.
