#Federal prosecutors unsealed a grand jury #indictment Tues accusing a FL man of a #HateCrime for repeatedly threatening to kill members of an American Muslim org….
The indictment charges Michael Shapiro, 72, of West Palm Beach, w/3 counts of transmitting #threats & said the #crimes were motivated by #hate because he targeted victims due to the religion & national origin of people who work or are helped by the Council on American-Islamic Relations. If convicted, he faces up to 10 yrs in #prison on each count.
…The case unsealed Tues is the third time he has been charged in the last 5 years w/federal #crimes & has been accused of threatening US #CapitolPolice officers, a member of #Congress & their child, acc/to federal court records….
The case is the latest amid an increasing threat of #DomesticTerrorism, particularly by people accused of holding anti-government & racially or ethnically motivated, #violent#extremist views, acc/to a US Govt Accountability Office report last year.
#rebeccamorris had children with someone that she knew had #groomed a #child to participate in a #violent stabbing, all while remaining peaceful, amazing work rebecca! congratulations! .~*
The Sexual predator criminal defendant is NOT immune from prosecution, #DC#Circuit rules.
The unanimous ruling is a big win for #DoJ and prosecutors. "Any executive immunity that may have protected him while he served as president no longer protects him against this prosecution."
three-judge D.C. Circuit panel — agreed with district court Judge Tanya Chutkan’s December 2023 decision denying Trump’s motion to dismiss his #federal#election#subversion indictment on presidential immunity grounds.
Three-judge D.C. Circuit panel ruled:
That “it would be a striking paradox if the President, who alone is vested with the constitutional duty to ‘take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed,’ were the sole officer capable of defying those laws with impunity.”
The decision is thorough and backed by a bipartisan group of judges that includes Karen Henderson, who has previously sided with Trump on key questions of executive power.
The #DC panel picked apart and rejected every one of the criminal defendant's immunity arguments:
For example: It will not lead to a cycle of baseless revenge prosecutions of former presidents they said.
The judges said the gravity of the charges against trump counseled against immunity here, considering the people's interest in elections as a check on presidential power.
#Court: "We cannot accept trump’s claim that a President has unbounded authority to commit crimes that would neutralize the most fundamental check on executive power — the recognition and implementation of election results.
‼️ Court Ruled: trump's view of immunity "would collapse our system of separated powers by placing the President beyond the reach of all three Branches," the judges ruled.
My #grandparents worked on the #buses in the days when the #drivers cab wasn't accessible from the the rest of the #bus. They'd be shocked to know how dangerous working in #publictransport has become.
Nikki Haley targeted in '#swatting' incident at her home
Authorities responded to the South Carolina home of Republican presidential candidate #NikkiHaley last month after a man claimed to have shot a woman & threatened to harm himself at her home, acc/to town records obtained by Reuters.
The previously unreported “swatting” incident is among a wave of #violent#threats, #bomb scares & other acts of #intimidation against #government officials, members of the #judiciary & #election administrators since the 2020 election that have alarmed #law enforcement ahead of this year’s U.S. presidential contest.
#Swatting cases have surged over the past two months, targeting mainly those who have opposed #Trump….
…the film “demonstrates that the most #violent group at the forefront of the attack on the U.S. #Capitol was closely connected to the #Trump campaign through #RogerStone, Donald Trump’s friend & ally for >30 years.”
The African Court on Human and People’s Rights had in 2017 ordered the government to recognize the Ogiek claim to the forest, involve them in its management, and pay damages for earlier evictions. Instead they have been attacked for months now…
Attys for #RubyFreeman & #ShayeMoss are urging the… panel to award the women $24M apiece for Giuliani’s #defamation …, which …ignited years of threats, professional & personal consequences & devastation of their #MentalHealth.
A Jan. 6 participant posted a video of two Capitol rioters — clad mostly in black — smashing a window on the lower west terrace.
Attackers photographed doing crimes try to say the photos of them was antifa!?
"Suspected ANTIFA trying to break windows at the Capitol," he wrote.
That's a big nope!
Let's review.
The man on the right is Jonathan Munafo, a Trump groupie known as "Front Row Joe," who was recently sentenced to nearly three years in federal prison.
In fact, the very video that the uncharged Jan. 6 participant posted is cited in the government's sentencing memo in "Front Row Joe" Munafo's case!
The man on the left is William Lewis, aka #CarharttWasp. He's got that Army patch on his arm. The feds say that he attacked officers with chemical spray on at least three separate occasions.
He's been arrested and charged
You can match up the shots.
Republican criminals tried to blame antifa for their crimes!
NEW: Prosecutors say they’re worried a new Jan. 6 defendant — convicted for killing an unarmed, handcuffed Iraqi civilian in 2004 — will “snap again” now that he’s facing charges for violence at the Capitol.
They also found an illegal AR-15 in his home.
A magistrate in Edward Richmond’s Louisiana area rejected DOJ’s bid to detain Richmond while he awaits trial (see below).
DOJ has made an emergency appeal to a judge in DC to reverse that decision, saying he’s both dangerous and a flight risk. Richmond maintains no active driver’s license, has no traceable income and does not have utility bills in his name, prosecutors say, contending this makes him a likely candidate to flee justice.
Feds seeking 11+ years in federal prison for Ralph Joseph Celentano, a Trump republican who sucker hit an officer from behind, sending him flying over a ledge.
I watch the "woe is poor me" crowd that had no problem committing crimes too numerous to count beg for leniency after tazing and beating cops causing strokes, heart failure, disability.
We all watched, in horror, live as the attack happened. They continuously tell us not to believe things we saw. I wonder where I've heard that before.
"Republicans like Turner, who betrayed their oath of office and committed sedition, must defend the Jan 6 insurrectionists because they know that they will eventually be implicated because of their complicity. Therefore, the only way that they can be “innocent” is if the Jan 6 insurrectionists are innocent."
The real outrage here is the corporate media giving republicans a platform to gaslight the American public about the insurrection and #Jan6th attack.
Scrolling through these local news reports may lead you to conclude that the country is in the grip of a crime wave. This is certainly the conclusion found across conservative media, including #Fox News primetime fixture Sean #Hannity, who on Oct. 6 declared that a Democrat-enabled #violent#crime wave is “wreaking havoc across #America.”
Here's another reason #DeSantis isn't competent or qualified for #elected office. He refuses to acknowledge the detrimental impact #violent language has on the populace when promoted by elected #leaders. The man is as #ignorant as he is #reckless, and he should never be considered for the #governor's office, let alone the #presidency. #WeThePeople deserve so much better than this piece of shit.
#Trump’s #violent rhetoric echoes the #fascist commitment to a destructive and bloody rebirth of society
But it is not just government officials whom Trump suggests be targeted for extrajudicial killings. Mere shoplifters should be killed too. “Very simply, if you rob a store, you can fully expect to be shot as you are leaving,” Trump said to cheers at the California #Republican Party convention in September.
And anonymous posters flooded a #Cornell msg board w/ #violent#threats, prompting the school’s president to alert the #FBI. “If you see a Jewish ‘person’ on campus follow them home & slit their throats,” one message said. Another threatened to “bring an assault rifle to campus & shoot all you pig jews.”
Secy of State #Blinken returned to #Israel Mon. Blinken met Israeli PM #Netanyahu & Pres #Herzog in #Jerusalem; he heads to #TelAviv next to meet w/ the #war cabinet ahead of their military offensive against #Hamas. Blinken’s 2nd visit in just a few days, comes after Pres #Biden warned that a new Israeli #occupation of #Gaza would be a “big mistake” — his firmest effort to signal restraint to Israel as the #HumanitarianCrisis in Gaza reaches critical.
The stabbing death of a child sounded like an unthinkable escalation, their worst fears come true. Activists & politicians issued stmnts demanding an end to the conflict & to the dangerous language they say finds resonance w/ #violent, unstable people.
“This atmosphere has created a monster out of a normal man who once built a treehouse,” said Ahmed Rehab of the Chicago Council on American-#Islamic Relations, a #Muslim advocacy group.
#Trump continued his attacks against #James hours before he returned to court for the 2nd day of arguments in the #civil#fraud#trial that the #NewYork AG brought against him & his company.
In 2 posts on his social platform this morning, Trump used derogatory terms to #attack James while denying any wrongdoing against allegations that he #inflated his #assets.
Since he first became a political candidate in the 2016 presidential race, #Trump has #glorified#violence, suggesting he wanted to #hit a #protester & offering to pay the legal fees if his supporters struck protesters at his rallies. But as Trump has been #indicted 4 times in 4 #jurisdictions in the last 5 months, & now faces a #civil#fraud#trial in #NY, his #violent speech has escalated.
#Trump’s public remarks, whether online, in interviews or at rallies, have always had the potential for incendiary effects. A number of defendants prosecuted over the attack on the Capitol on #Jan6, 2021, said they believed they were acting on Trump’s orders.
Part of what has changed is that his #violent remarks now come at a time when the #indictments have already stoked #anger among his supporters & when attacks against #institutions, #judges & #prosecutors around the country have increased.
