Taieri River Track is 4.5km to picnic area, or 3km/ 1h to a seat with views (📷1). Initially only few glimpses of the river (📷2). As it was slippery we stopped at the seat, before a steep descent. View upriver to Māori Leap w/ Pseudopanax ferox in foreground (📷3) & downriver toward sea (📷4). Met 5 large 🐕 (none allowed); must terrify wildlife—when not maiming or killing it.
We have a small leak somewhere in the cooling system, specifically the radiator, that I'm have no end if trouble finding. The engine bay in the motorhome is a nightmare to get around in and the air-conditioning radiator covers the front of the engine radiator completely.
Anyway, while sticking my head into places it didn't fit, we noticed a small longitudinal crack in the serpentine belt. If the belt had been any further around it wouldn't have shown at all. I also noticed that the tensioner indicator was showing that the belt had stretched to the allowed limit.
Fortunately I had a spare belt.
Much struggling later - did I mention the engine bay is a nightmare? - I got the old belt off.
OK, that small crack? It was a separation that ran for about 20 centimetres, and there were a couple of suspect spots elsewhere.
Anyway, new belt installed, a few new cuts and grazes achieved, and sleeping easier.
Oh, that leak? Still can't find it and it didn't show up this afternoon at all. 🤨
More images from Pūrākaunui Inlet, Ōtepoti/ #Dunedin. A still evening as the tide returns (📷1). Elevated view from green fields of a muted sunset (📷2). Sacred kingfisher/ kōtare/ Todiramphus sanctus, looking for estuarine edibles on the morning tide (📷4); earlier observed dispatching 🦀 crab!
Van life looks cool, but it seems like everyone has to first build out their van. But there is a modular way to install everything in a moment. This looks amazing.
@donncha it's insane isn't it. I can't drive anywhere coz Bongos tend to run hot & are known to overheat. So I'm stuck where I am. So I've put my roof up & opened the canvas & the boot. There's a lovely breeze blowing through now.
All those pictures of #VanLife don't cover this melting Irish people business 🤣
I have wanted to go on a road trip for a while, just driving off to nearby towns in my hatchback and exploring. I’d start small, like a day or three. The main thing holding me back is uncertainty of what to bring and how to do it, amongst other issues. I think I can figure out the food and sleep, but I was wondering:...
I’ve seen those types of questions frequently addressed by #VanLife content creators. Maybe look into that. I know that was helpful for the 2 week road trip my wife and I took.
Right! That's the new shock absorber on. The old one had snapped the rod clean off at the top knuckle, and then pounded it's way through the wood and steel under the forward water tank – fortunately it missed the tank itself.
The new one went on easy, with the help of two jacks; one to lift the chassis off the axle, the other to squish the shockie into place.
Got the tools packed away, and down came the hail.
Lake Rotoroa (“long lake”) is largest lake in Nelson Lakes NP; water taxi runs from jetty (📷1). View south down lake to Maniniaro/ Angelus Peak 2,075m in the Travers Range to E; Mt Misery 1,601m to R (📷2). On western shore, Braeburn Walk 5km/ 1.5h thru beech/ podocarp forest (📷3) leads to waterfall. Source of Te Kauparenui/ Gowan River (📷), draining lake into Buller River.

Fresh stitching project dropped off today.
Looking forward to a start.
Cheaper to get from Germany than from the UK where its made thanks to #Brexit & stupid charges
After tinkering lots with the heater my battery charge was down a bit last night so there was a bit of power management going on so I'd still have charge for phone, dog stuff, fridge etc so I didn't use as many lights to stitch as I normally do. But I got a bit of progress in. I'm missing my grid so I ended up drawing one on (disappears with a spritz of water) #VanLife#crossStitch @crossstitch@fibrearts

#today I'm exhausted. Visited a marina, walked the dogs, watched rowers in #Currach's, visited a market there, went for a cycle, ate ice-cream, picked blackberries, drove to the opposite side of the county, visited my old butchers, went to the vet (he couldn't revive the slab of pork 🤪), drove to another county up a mountain to a forest, cooked fajitas for dinner, walked the dogs... I think it's time to watch some #GoodGirls & veg out. Maybe put on my slippers if I can find them 💤 😴 #VanLife
(4/4) Abel Tasman NP, Torrent Bay/ Rākauroa to Onetahuti. A stunning introduction to Onetahuti beach (📷1). Off the beach’s south end, Tonga Island contributes to the Tonga Roadstead/ sheltered anchorage (📷3). Views north (📷3) before our taxi pick-up (📷4). A 46km journey over 6h 20m, of which 14km/ 4.5h hiking—but felt under time pressure, meeting taxi with only 3min left!
What should I be aware of before a road trip?
