I'm finally getting to the point where #Godot feels like home and #Unity feels like the old bad place.
When I use Unity now (pretty much only for contract work), I'm starting to feel the absence of key Godot features, most notably the ability to edit multiple prefabs/scenes at once in separate tabs.
Say I have a Unity shader, where in vertex stage, it offsets mesh in world space, to be further away from camera in the view direction, then convert the final position into clip space and pass onto fragment stage.
It works perfectly on D3D, Vulkan and Metal platform, but OpenGL want the offset to be much smaller, almost 1/20~1/100 of the value, in order to produce the same look.
RenderDoc shows used inputs are the same across platforms.
If you're using #Unity 2022 for an Android title, I'd strongly recommend upgrading to 2022.3.19f1. Especially if you've seen or heard reports of random freezes.
When I run a WebGL build of my Unity game on Ubuntu, I get a pink triangle in the middle of each level. This doesn't happen in the editor and it doesn't happen running the same WebGL build on other OSes. Any idea what's going on?
@hirad
It actually is borrowed from #Unity.
I prefer the HUD from unity which let you find what you're looking for, without hassling with menu hierarchy.
Okay, Mastodon, I think I have a problem only you can solve.
I'm doing some maintenance on a game I developed on a Mac in Unity 2021.3.18f1. I'm now working on Ubuntu.
When I first pulled the game from GitHub, it wouldn't run because Unity was complaining about libssl. I got around this by upgrading the project to Unity 2022.3.10f1. Now the game runs (at least within Unity), but the sound doesn't play.
I can play the sound files individually from within Unity, but I get warnings like this:
Errors during import of AudioClip Assets/Audio/mixkit-chill-bro-494.mp3:
ffmpeg -i "Temp/fsbankcache750326/tmpinput_HQDdFr.WAV" -f mp4 -codec aac -b:a 192000 -strict experimental -y "Temp/importedAudioTempPrimary750196"
FSBTool ERROR: Error converting Temp/fsbankcache750326/tmpinput_HQDdFr.WAV: make sure you have avconv or ffmpeg installed
FSBTool ERROR: Failed encoding audio clip '/home/drake/Unity/q2t2/Assets/Audio/mixkit-chill-bro-494.mp3' to AAC. Possibly the file is too short. Try to append silence such that the length becomes at least 1024 samples.
(I don't get these warnings when running the game.)
I did install ffmpeg:
$ ffmpeg -version
ffmpeg version 4.4.2-0ubuntu0.22.04.1 Copyright (c) 2000-2021 the FFmpeg developers
built with gcc 11 (Ubuntu 11.2.0-19ubuntu1)
What can I do to get my sound to play? Any leads appreciated.
#Unity tip, remember folks, _ScreenParams are the pixel size of current camera target (which could be anything if you are rendering to a RT), NOT the pixel size of current device.
My outline width mystery had finally been solved, 3 days, it took me 3 days to realize this.
Indie games will not be able to be in any type of alternative AppStore for iOS in the EU. This is crystal clear, because everybody did the math already, due to Unity”s horrible but now abandoned “download” fees. Apple had the same fucked-up idea.
Another thing of interest in the Apple announcement is the ability to use our own browser core. We need to understand all the details there and clearly there is a concern that we would have to have two binaries, one for the EU and one for the rest of the world, but at least EU users will get a better browser! I hope the rest of the world will too!
If you want to be able to have your application downloaded through other means than the app store, you have to pay apple 50c pr install over 1 million yearly.
I would think this is in violation of the DMA, but kind of sounds like Apple does not care.
It was a year and a half ago, a mechanism for testing the display of different phrases and a tutorial in different languages. Then I struggled with fonts and understanding how to set up Asian languages character atlases correctly

My wife has recently gotten into PowerWash Simulator so I thought I'd throw some stuff together and make a cute little game for her about packing up a house. Nice idea? #gamedev
