Big Barrel is off to the dumpster to get some grub. Jakub Żulczyk draws a picture of decline in Many Years of Hardships, translated by John and Małgorzata Markoff.
Great networking meeting today at Topping & Company Booksellers in Edinburgh, talking about translating books and selling books. Bought this one at the recommendation of one of the booksellers: Bad Cree by Jessica Johns.
OK, #Italian#NodeCore#translation are now at 99% completion. The only thing missing for 100% are three strings pertaining “gated prisms”. Gating here is to be intended in the circuit logic sense (a gated prism is one that doesn't let light through). I'd rather use the proper Italian term here but I have no idea what it is. If anybody know, please do let me know #fediHelp#translationHelp
Update on the #NodeCore#translation situation. I've decided to take the plunge and get “creative” for Italian, fishing from ancient Greek for the names I was having troubles with. One of the problem is that some of the names actually exist in Italian, although with slightly different meanings.
Here's the situation as of now, with comments. The translations are still open for debate, so if anyone has comments or suggestions, I'm open.
One of the things I love about #NodeCore is that, despite being conceptually in the #Infiniminer / #Minecraft genre, it has a very original and quirky take on it. This also reflects on a number of details down to the level of semantics —and that's where my love turns into hate when I want to translate it.

Faith, hope and literature. In the latest @fictionable#podcast Lauren Caroline Smith looks for God in her teenage years and finds belief on the bookshelf.
In the week Jenny Erpenbeck won the #InternationalBookerPrize catch her on the @fictionable#podcast recalling the fall of the Berlin Wall and discussing her prizewinning novel Kairos, translated by Michael Hofmann.
What kind of lived experience is it necessary for a translator to have? Is it possible for white authors to translate Black poetry? I argue that while, certainly, lived experience is important for poetry, this does not render translators incapable simply in virtue of their social location.
Great! Mastodon's translation via Deepl translates not only the post but also the AltTexts! And helps me to follow people with - for me - exotic languages. 😊
