SPOOKY HIGH-TECH THRILLER focuses on a brilliant, ruthless scientist’s mysterious experiments and their impact on the world around her—and on her own life. Lots of action and some terrifying psychological horror. B PLUS
Just finished "Gone, Baby, Gone" by #DennisLehane (1998).
Reading him for the first time in English makes me think that his Spanish translator(s) did him right. The guy is a fantastic writer, and knows how to hold the balance between action and the inner world of Kenzie.
The story itself is devastating, even having watched the movie and read the sequel long ago.
He treats his characters with compassion and makes you feel for them. #bookstodon#thriller@bookstodon#Kenzie#Gennaro#crimefiction
Run from this place,
From the town of demons,
Walkers of the night.
Palm trees bow to their power.
Sand covers the victims.
Tourists flee the hotel.
The winds howl their name.
I'm on a PR mailing list for thrillers. Yesterday I got a pitch for a book with the twist that the CIA are actually the bad guys in fighting a terrorist plot. Today I got different pitch where the twist is that the CIA are actually the good guys fighting a terrorist plot. I guess we're covered now. #thriller#books
@bookstodon My #review of Rouge by Mona Awad is now live! Darkly beautiful and intensely bittersweet, this actually managed to make me cry towards the end. That is VERY much a compliment.
The trees of the forest shiver and shake.
Their long limbs tremble from the next quake.
White is the color of my nightgown
As I stand and shiver with a frown.
A shadow emerges from the trees.
I hope it is not him, pretty please.
My body moves forward against my will.
I grab a thick tree and try to hold still.
I dig my feet into the packed snow,
But I must go where the wind might blow.
A wonderfully tense bottle #thriller filled with photogenic #movie stars.
Mahershala Ali and Julia Roberts used to laugh at Ethan Hawke when they'd play the "Which one of Us Has an Oscar?" game and Hawke would always come up empty. Even on set visitor Julie Delpy had a field day laughing and pointing at him. Seems unnecessarily mean.

HOW TO SAVE THE WORLD? The characters in Naomi Alderman’s crisp near-future technothriller have a lot of ideas—some of them on a collision course with others. Action and deft satire blend in this high-energy yet thoughtful read. A MINUS
SHARP PRIVATE EYE thriller follows a detective and his childhood best friend, now an investigative reporter, to Mexico on the trail of a seasoned criminal. Lots of relatable characters and some great descriptions. SOLID B
A humble request from an author. Please give one of my audiobooks a try. As a neurodivergent creative, I'm always grateful for those boosts that come from individual people who see me and like what I do.
Martin McDonagh's crime #thriller is entertainingly breezy and easy enough to forget after it ends. A-list looks like they're enjoying themselves chewing on grindhouse dialogue and so does the audience. A Guy Ritchie #movie if he wasn't a hack. My favorite psychopath is #4.
