Want to learn about the business side of writing your SF stories?
Can*Con is offering an online workshop. it runs for three weeks starting on May 14, every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 pm ET. It's a dedicated workshop with vetted experts who work in the field who’ll share wisdom, experience, and a way forward.
Need some inspiration and motivation for your SF writing? The virtual Can*Con conference is TOMORROW (Sat. April 20).
There will be live (as opposed to recorded) editors, agents, authors plus private chat rooms for socializing and networking.
You can get tickets for just this virtual event, or a deeply discounted rate for this PLUS the in-person convention in November.
Mastodonners: your favourite speculative fiction books involve a connection to the land, including and especially clifi/climate crisis narratives and folk & occult horror. Go!
What's everyone reading coming up on this long weekend? I've got two books on the go as I often do! I'm enjoying both of these very much. Premee Mohamed's THE SIEGE OF BURNING GRASS just came out two weeks ago, and Sydney Hegele's debut novel BIRD SUIT comes in in May. Thanks to Invisible Publishing for the advance copy!
This week's Sapphic Book Bingo post features sapphic speculative fiction, which is a broad and diverse category, so I included 20 instead of 15 recommended books.
Most of them are sapphic paranormal romances, fantasy, or romantasy novels, but there are also some sci-fi romances, dark fantasy, and horror in the mix.
Every month, we do this cool thing on Liminal Fiction (LimFic.com) to support indie writers. We share 4 of their books with our readers for free, and then add those readers (only with permission) to the author lists. It's a great way to get some new reads, "meet" a few up and coming authors, and forge new connections. :)
May's books are below. Grab 'em here (we send them out around the 3rd of next month):
If you missed Ronald McGillvray's big birthday book giveaway this past weekend, you should still check out, buy, and read his stuff. Worth every penny, and every moment of your time. Give him a follow and get ready for his next release!
We're less than a week away from the Kindle edition release of "The Spiral and The Threads" and there's never been a better time to explore The Nod/Wells Timelines!
It's been great seeing the excitement for "The Spiral and The Threads" building over the past few weeks. In particular, the increased interest in the previous "Nod/Wells Timelines" books has been wonderful. Thanks, everybody!
Fuck, I got a #FF shout-out from Bread and Circuses. Better do that intro I've been meaning to (re) do! Hello, new followers! :heart_pride:
Who am I: a lady, a bitch, a woman, a human. Cisgender, queer, white. Living in New York, where I was born, but I have traveled. Doing my best to support my Darling Nonbinary Spouse in their challenges being one of very few Black people in our community. Currently working as a drafter of soil/water conservation infrastructure. Before that, I bounced around a lot. Did construction and childcare and food service and data entry and more.
What you can expect from me: PLENTY boosts. I see it, I like it, I boost. Regular posts about #ClimateChange, #Degrowth, #GreenBuilding, and related topics. Commentary about social justice. Some news, but more opinion, about USA and NYS politics. I tag these (USpol/NYpol), but don't CW them. Edit: almost forgot to mention: I'm an anarchist apparently (I had to look it up) and I hate capitalism.
Other, less weighty stuff I like to talk about: #music of any genre. I'm developing the desire to become a DJ and collect vinyl, somebody stop me! #Crochet and fiber arts. #SciFi, #SpecFic. Not a skilled shitposter but I do appreciate the art form.
Fair warning: I like to argue. If you don't enjoy seeing someone go back and forth with mildly offensive bootlickers from time to time, I may not be your cup of tea. And don't worry about my mental health WRT arguments, to my brain a good argument is a lot like a good video game.
Bookwyrm gave me my "wrapped" for last year, the first year I used it. It says I read 16 books, but I read lots more than that, just didn't get around to posting about them. Anyway, if you're looking for something to read, especially in the #SFF realm, check it out!
Wow! Almost 300 people have entered the Goodreads giveaway for the Kindle edition of "The Spiral and The Threads." Clearly, folks are already excited but for those who missed it, here's the link:
With the release of "The Spiral and The Threads" in hardcover and paperback, "The Nod/Wells Timelines" as I originally conceived them have been completed. In many ways, this is my most challenging, and potentially rewarding, book to date, and one that is very much "for the fans."
