Just finished The Light Fanstastic by Terry Pratchett.
I enjoyed it a lot, I’m not sure if there are more Rincewind books but whilst I enjoyed him as a character, I’m looking forward to reading about another part of the Disc next
Cached US Kindle giveaway: 10 copies of Terry Pratchett's Guards! Guards! This is not one of my favorite DW books -- it's more focused on humor than human insight, but a) I'm weird, b) other people will fight me about this opinion, and c) it's the first one that shows his direction changing. Also, it introduces the Night Watch, which means Vimes and Carrot. It is a great place to start reading DW if you have't yet.
Death is this unexpectedly sweet and sad character that I want to befriend, take care of, and assure him that everything will be alright and that we all love him.
Death is one of my favourite discworld characters ❤️
So true, Death. There's no cosmic justice, karma, or even any logic behind the “WHY”, even though it might be a bit reassuring to think along those lines.
(quotation from Mort by Terry Pratchett)
Binky's an adorable name for DEATH’s horse. And “Dethe thee Great Levyller Comes To Alle Menne” on a horse called Binky is just hilarious!
(from Mort by Terry Pratchett)
Another #Discworld adaptation and I can't help it: It didn't really work for me.
There were some entertaining characters, but the production looks cheap, despite its lavish design.
Also didn't help that I was forced into seeing the dubbed German version. Just from my reading experience I can tell that #TerryPratchett 's work only ever works in English.
But: It has a good Christmas message attached, ironically thanks to the Grim Reaper, who criticizes the inequality.
“A pack is an association of free individuals. A pack doesn't leap because it's told – a pack leaps because every individual, all at once, decides to leap.”
Men at Arms #TerryPratchett
“You ain’t really allowed to do that,” said Albert, feeling wretched.
"THE HOGFATHER CAN. THE HOGFATHER GIVES PRESENTS. THERE’S NO BETTER PRESENT THAN A FUTURE."
Apart from Death's speech at the end of the book, probably my favourite bit from the Hogfather. It feels like a very Pratchett moment, and really shows where the heart of the Discworld series lies.
#Hogfather play in The Pleasance, by the Straw Moddie, crew was a total delight. I am filled with the Hogmas spirit (and also sweets thrown into the audience).
Folks, it's all very well going on about pure logic and how the universe is ruled by logic and the harmony of numbers, but the plain fact of the matter is that we are manifestly traversing space on the back of a giant turtle and the gods have a habit of going around to atheist's houses and smashing their windows.
Icelanders' belief in #elves is often greatly exaggerated. There is also a basic misunderstanding of what it entails for those who actually believe. Historically, people who thought that elves were real didn't think they were cute or in touch with nature. They could have signed on to what #TerryPratchett wrote. They thought elves were dangerous.
