Nobody has taken a task as seriously as Carrie takes her kneading my lap ritual.

fringemagnet,

@daisy Oh let me tell you, whenever she is focused on something she is COMMITTED. 😁

fringemagnet,

@daisy She even lets out little sighs during her kneading process. I tried to get it on video, but they are so faint the microphone doesn't catch them. It's the most adorable thing. XD

“You ain’t really allowed to do that,” said Albert, feeling wretched.

"THE HOGFATHER CAN. THE HOGFATHER GIVES PRESENTS. THERE’S NO BETTER PRESENT THAN A FUTURE."

Apart from Death's speech at the end of the book, probably my favourite bit from the Hogfather. It feels like a very Pratchett moment, and really shows where the heart of the Discworld series lies.

fringemagnet,

@daisy Oh I definitely am, some scenes from that book hit me every single time. :blobcatsadreach:

It's a tiny bit unsettling how catchy this is. At least all proceeds from streaming go to 'Children in Need', so I feel less bad for listening to a song by a bunch of goblins preparing to feed a baby to the Goblin King, who is definitely more Jabba the Hutt than David Bowie.

Totally looking forward to the Christmas Special, if only to find out what on earth (or possibly not on earth) is going on.

fringemagnet,

@daisy Oh don't worry, I totally gotcha. I refer to them just by numbers too. 😁

And seriously, gotta love this weird, brilliant show. You never know what to expect. I've technically never stopped watching, but with the latest seasons I skipped episodes and got caught up later.

Both Capaldi and Jodie were amazing Doctors, but sometimes the writing failed them, which is a shame. It's good to see the show return to its cheesy but fun roots. The good part is that you can jump back in without the need to watch everything you missed beforehand.

fringemagnet,

@daisy Totally agree, I think you're spot on tbh! For both Jodie and Capaldi, their charisma and delivery often salvaged very lukewarm episodes. It's what kept me coming back.

I love Ncuti Gatwa, he won me over with the first smirk, I really find his energy very fitting for the Doctor.

Hey #DoctorWho fans, what are your feelings about the #BiGeneration in #TheGiggle? Yay, Nay or I don't know yet? #FediPolls

fringemagnet,

@daisy @jynersolives I quite liked the ending too, it opens the door for a lot of opportunities. Plus changes to the canon like this is definitely not something new to the show.

31 years ago, on December 11, 1992, The Muppet Christmas Carol was released. Arguably the most heartfelt, maybe even the best adaptation of Charles Dickens' novella, and perhaps of any book that has ever been written [slight possibility of exaggeration, citation needed].

Written by Jerry Juhl and directed by Brian Henson. Starring Sir Michael Caine, with a brilliant score by Miles Goodman and songs by Paul Williams. It is the first Muppet film to come out after the passing of Jim Henson and puppeteer Richard Hunt, who was openly gay and tragically passed away at the age of 40 due to HIV/AIDS complications, and it is dedicated to both their memories.

Almost everyone who says "Mastodon didn't work for me" on Bluesky seems to have posted only "me me me" stuff for months (if that) on Mastodon, followed about 10-20 people, never replied to anyone and then gave up because "nobody there, it didn't fly".

It seems there is a big misunderstanding how this free and healthy social media works. We are not here for the easy wins, likes, shares and dopamine spikes. We are here because we accept the fact we are not part of the commercial hype machine. We choose natural engagement over spoiling algorithms, we choose conversation and meaning in our social media. At least that is how I see it.

fringemagnet,

@rolle Mastodon has become my preferred and main platform for a while now, I use other social media as well, but Bluesky never worked for me.

For what I need from a platform the Fediverse is by far the most promising. That said, I feel that the wording of this post is overgeneralizing, specifically saying "almost everyone" seems to either ignore or dismiss the very valid points of Black people, women, and other marginalized groups who have had negative first experiences upon joining.

Mastodon is a platform of hundreds of thousands of active users, you cannot by any logic vouch for such a large number of strangers and dismiss everyone who has found that the platform wasn't for them as egocentric people who are not willing to adapt.

Yes there is a much healthier community here overall, but there is sexism, there are reply guys, there are tech bros who will pop up with condescending points. Generally wherever a large number of humans exist you will find a variety of behaviours, not all of them positive.

Painting an almost utopic picture of a platform by accusing almost everyone who couldn't find their place here for being an obnoxious clout chaser who feeds the machine, not only dismisses the real experiences of marginalized people, alienating folks who had a bad first experience even more, but it also denies Mastodon as a community the opportunity for self reflection that will help it grow further and become more welcoming.

Sure I can't feel my left arm at this point, but she's purring and I can still reach the coffee, so I can't complain too much.

fringemagnet,

@daisy She's really ridiculously affectionate. She's not like that in general, it takes quite a bit of intentional effort on their part to get her to warm up and even approach other people, but with me she's been like that from the second I found her.

fringemagnet,

@daisy She's my floofy little girl, she just needs her time to trust. 💜

fringemagnet,

@daisy I can't, her squeaky meow gets me every time and she knows it too well. It's her secret weapon and her superpower. :BlobCat_Hug:

As brief as Bernard Cribbins' cameo was, and as sad as it is that he wasn't able to film more of what they had planned for his character before he passed away, it was exceptionally touching to see Wilf reuniting with the Doctor, providing a very heartfelt, optimistic, and tender closure to a 15 year old story that felt quite fitting to the show's defiantly hopeful core. Because sure, good things and happy reunions don't always happen, but it's nice to once in a while have a reminder that, sometimes, they actually do.

#DoctorWho #DrWho #BernardCribbins #DavidTennant

Screenshot from Russell T Davies' Instagram, having posted the previous picture with the following comment dedicated to Bernard Cribbins: "Farewell, Old soldier. That's goodnight and goodbye to our beloved Bernard. Wilf is mentioned in dispatches next week, all safe and sound, don't worry, but that's the only scene Bernard was able to film. We had a wonderful time! We'd never lost touch, in all these years, so I phoned him up and asked him to come back. He sniffed and said, 'Let me see the script.' 😂 We had a wonderful readthrough with 120 people at which he was adored by one and all. A lovely dinner in Cardiff where he regaled us with tales galore, twinkling as ever. Then the shoot in Camden - you can see in Unleashed and read in next week's DWM how much he enjoyed that. And then... we had a little more written, but it wasn't to be; at 93 years old, the old soldier had given us his best, and stepped away. Night, Bernard, and thank you. I love you. ❤️ "

fringemagnet,

@daisy I teared up just seeing the Doctor Who account posting the behind the scenes pictures tbh.

fringemagnet, to DoctorWho

All caught up with 'Wild Blue Yonder'. Properly creepy and weird episode. Felt like peak Doctor Who and also new at the same time. One of the best episodes of the show in a while, that final scene really hit a sentimental chord.
