#China once had an #InternetArchive run by #researchers at #PekingUniversity that allowed users to perform keyword searches of more than 2.5 billion #historical web pages from millions of websites in #Chinese.

Archived news articles about events from just a few years ago are no longer showing up on internet searches in China, cutting off access to the country's recent history from all but the most resourceful researchers..

Question for other #researchers and #ResearchSoftwareEngineers - if you are submitting supplementary materials to a conference, such as a #github or @huggingface repo, how do you anonymize the repo so that the name of the repo or the repo owner does not violate the anonymity requirements?

Is there a way to do this?

Reading @mekkaokereke 's terrific thread on onboarding (https://hachyderm.io/@mekkaokereke/112219016968211952), and wondering what other #newPI / #PI / #researchers in #academia do.

I've a short document with all the main information on department/group life, which I share on day 1, but I don't think it's sufficient.

Does anyone have any resources/examples/ideas to share?

Are there any #medical #scientists or #researchers or #neurologists doing any current studies on human #brain & #memory retention - specifically on maximum capacities of human brain memory storage & if there's a limit to how much we can store in our brains?

Like, if we build up many new memories, do we reach a point where some past memories are removed from our memory storage or is there no maximum limits to human memory storage?

These are things I wonder about & don't know enough about.

Investing into #young #researchers always pays off. In multiple ways. And supervision is so much more than providing a topic and grading the result. It is ultimately about coaching, encouraging and learning.

What are your experiences and attitudes towards supervision?

I’m #lucky enough to #work in #academia for 15 years now, with a permanent position since 2016. My job is nothing less than my #passion.

Still, today, after one week of #holidays, I’m NOT eager to go back to work. I know many people also feel the same after holidays, because their job is somehow painful. For the very first time to me, I’m like them.

I’m still extremely lucky to be in a group with talented young #researchers, for whom I want the best and do everything I can.

If you are tweeting or tooting about data dumps and are using screenshots of TAs' posts, remember to redact any links in the posts.

I have just seen two examples in the past hour where people tweeted screenshots that show the whole world where to find personal information of students in one case and protected health information in the second case.

Tweet or toot responsibly. Remember to redact.

Have a great weekend.
