Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Traditions and rituals for the holiday are vary widely across the planet. USA Today provides these key facts about the holiday, including why many people use eggs as part of the celebration. https://flip.it/lk5x7e #Culture#Easter#Holidays#Christianity
We opened for business today. As if to mark the occasion the weather changed. I had the sun on my face for a full 45 minutes this afternoon. The vernal equinox has passed and the most telling sign is a full car park at Dunvegan Castle. Visitors bring us connections to the world. All summer we’ll meet people who have chosen to holiday here. Last year we had more than 800 guests from 38 different countries. I can’t wait.
Hopping on a #bus to return to your #hometown during #festive#holidays may soon become a thing of the past if nothing is done to halt the declining number of bus drivers
With at least 5,000 #vacancies to fill, it has been suggested that the government offer free #training to those interested in becoming #busdrivers
The #shortage was expected to become more severe with each passing year
Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox — which this year is on March 31. Here's a story from @TheConversationUS about the origin of the word "Easter," its connection to the Jewish festival of Passover, and why it changed from a day of heavy drinking and merrymaking (as it was until the 19th century) to a family occasion.
We're going to Amsterdam during my holidays between my jobs 👀 ❤️🔥 Always dreamed to see the Rijksmuseum ♥️
Do you have some advice of cool stuff to do ? Like queer stuff, events, cultural things ?
Or even vegan restaurants ?
I’m #lucky enough to #work in #academia for 15 years now, with a permanent position since 2016. My job is nothing less than my #passion.
Still, today, after one week of #holidays, I’m NOT eager to go back to work. I know many people also feel the same after holidays, because their job is somehow painful. For the very first time to me, I’m like them.
I’m still extremely lucky to be in a group with talented young #researchers, for whom I want the best and do everything I can.
Oh here's a cool #GIS thing I'd love to see exist - a (zoomable) world map which, for any day of the year, shows you where it is a holiday.
Colours could indicate if it's a day off for most, some, or few. Maybe timeAndDate.com has something close already?
I'm always unsure who has a coincident holiday and who doesn't. For example it's a holiday in my area (Ontario Canada) today, but I'm unsure who else within Canada is off today, let alone other countries.
For all of my Canadian friends, happy holiday Monday! Today goes by many names in Canada, depending on the province or territory you’re in. Here in Ontario it’s Family Day. Enjoy this day before we must all dive back into the fray tomorrow.
I'm seeing from international posters that the American holiday weekend is slowing access to goods and fuel, information, as though it's because people here have the days off. Interesting since working people I know are working this weekend. (eg. my husband, son's partner). We don't get holidays here. #PresidentsWeekend#PresidentsDay#ExPresidentLegalCalendarCatchup #Holidays#WinterHolidays#FloodWarning
“How can #Christians celebrate both Yom Saint #Valentine Ha’Kodesh, and also Ash Fourthday, since they fall on the same #Christian date this year?”
I have it all worked out. I know a lot of Christians (I even have six (6) Christian friends) so I’m happy to solve this one for you. My Christian friends say I know more about Christianity than most Christians!
Tomorrow some of your Christian students may be observing the Christian holiday of Yom Saint Valentine Ha’Kadosh, more commonly known as Christian Tu B’Av. It is one of their important religious ‘Feast Days’ that even the least frum observe.
