As a (former) Reddit user, I just joined #Kbin to watch and help support the potential #RedditMigration coming from that platform. Here is me there: @tchambers
And I just supported @ernest the creator of the platform, and so should you: suspect next week he will need all the support the Fedi can give.
I do feel more than a little sympathy for @ernest.
In January he decided to try to build an ActivityPub based messageboard system.
A month ago he decided the code was stable enough that he could release the first alpha version, and stood up https://kbin.social to demonstrate it.
It attracted quite a few users per day and proved that it might just be an exciting new entry into the Fediverse.
And then Reddit's admins did their thing, and suddenly thousands, millions, tens of millions of users are looking for a new home. And although a few other brave souls have also created kbin instances in the last few days, there's simply not enough capacity to even begin to cope with all the demand.
So, I am a Reddit refugee that wants to check out the Fediverse. And I am so happy to see you all.
Every platform is failing.
The corporations won and are now dying.
The open internet is closing.
Information and history is being erased.
The Fediverse is our only hope......
Anyway I had chicken wings today and I might post memes on this account to make people laugh, yippe!!!
New migrants please be patient. This is a lot like Nov 2022. It will be choppy, but get sorted out. This is another golden opportunity to break down corporate social media.

What is incredibly exciting about #RedditMigration is the rate at which the #Fediverse is adding capacity. In the last few days, well established and very capable Mastodon server operators have been adding #kbin and #Lemmy instances.
It wasn't the fact that there was a limit to see 1000 comments but what they were. The vast majority of my 12 years on Reddit I spent talking about dungeon and dragons 5th edition (DnD 5e) which I started playing early in is lifestyle. It was my first role playing game and I got sucked into the Internet to learn more. Before my...
In a gist: Users have been providing reddit with our content, work, and moderation FOR FREE. And Steve Huffman has the balls to tell us that WE are the ones who should pay? Dude... 🙄
Just want to say how crucial #FediDB is this week tracking the #RedditMigration and what a great resource it has grown into becoming for the entire Fedi.

As an effect of the recent Reddit blackout, the company is now surrounded by disappointed investors and community. I predict that Reddit may end up facing the same fate as Tumblr: being sold to another company. Only time will tell what the future holds for Reddit, but one thing is for sure - the protest will leave a lasting...
My #redditmigration has gone great! I am using the #kbin client, but also following a ton of threads (subreddits) on #lemmy. It works so much better than I expected and is already workable to replace Reddit. I think things will only get better as the #threadiverse grows and more esoteric/niche areas get populated.
Reddit was my last corporate social media holdout, and I am glad the company inspired me to finally jump ship with bad corpo behavior!

Deleting my Reddit comments was a strange experience.

I know it's wishful thinking but I really hope all the media coverage of the protests will tank Reddits upcoming IPO.
