Is there any advantage to running 4.1 over 4.0? Moving my instance to new hardware, and I’ve toyed with the idea of using 4.1 instead. I’m happy enough with 4.0, just need to know what I’m missing out on being on 4.0. And if you’ve done it, a few pointers would be welcome.

Geralt and Yennefers conversation about child bearing or childlessness is actually quite good, interesting and I find it being sensitive to the subject in a way.

Like it's not just making a joke of it, this show is definitely a combo of jokes and serious moments, which I also appreciate.

A lot of the stuff this far has surprised me about the show, as I'd only seen bits and pieces before. And the new episodes of season 3.

So I didn't realize ciri was in it from the beginning. I just got the impression that they'd met her at the end of season 2 (and that she was a new character then).

So I'm in for this ride.

    On writing sex

    If it's just sex, I have no problem writing it - no, I mean no problem intending to write it.

    But I'm far from the best erotica writer, I got a long way to go, and you know? It's exhausting. It's friggin' exhausting.

    Because I'm human and I also get turned on, so I need to be careful not to get carried away and as they say, "type with one hand". 🫣

    But it's mostly difficult you know why? Because pacing is CRUCIAL when writing a sex scene. Especially if you're writing smut, as in fap material. I mean, it's easier to write artistic sex, fill it with allegories and flowers and music and so on... but when you're writing for others to fap, it's incredibly exhausting because you need to get the pacing PERFECTLY: There's the sexual tension building at the beginning, and if you intend to do it right, the introspection on the POV character. Describing their feelings, emotions, physiological responses, and so on. But you need to conserve the tension and slowly increase it until the climax.

    And then you need to review it to make sure it's not too corny. You need to make sure it doesn't get funny - you're going for horny, not bloopers, and you need to tune so many knobs and levers in your writing. It's as much as an art as it's a science.

    And then you need to review it again. And again. And again. And because it's sex you're writing, this has a great toll on your body. If you don't get turned on when writing smut then you're doing something wrong. So if you succumb to your desires, then you need to stop writing and wait for the next day. And after you finished reviewing several times, you either finish yourself or get a cold shower, but it's frickin' exhausting. 😮‍💨

    I had enough with ONE scene in my novel, and as much as I love imagining my characters have fun adult times together, actually writing sex is a FUCKING TORTURE :blobugh:

    Unless it's a softcore scene. Like, a sex scene between the action hero and the girl in, say, Lethal Weapon 2 or something? You know, with the slow sax 🎷 background and a transition to the sunset? That's piece of cake in comparison. Because you're not writing sex. You're writing bits and pieces of sex.

    But if you intend to write the whole thing, trust me, it must be justified for your own mental health. ⛏️🪨

    On intimacy

    Now let's focus on intimacy - because it's very different from sex and they're not necessarily the same.

    I have a problem with writing intimacy, not because it makes me uncomfortable, but because it does get too intimate, psychologically speaking. I worry that if I write too much I might end up oversharing some of my own desires and needs, and that's something I don't want anyone to see. It's too intimate for me.

    So what happens when I have a character like Bethany, who accidentally ended up being an outlet for my own desires and needs?

    Um... :blobnervous: Houston, we got a problem.

    So yeah, any intimacy with her is either incomplete or overshared. I don't think I'll ever find a middle point, and I'd rather err on the incompleteness.

    Will that be enough for my readers? I certainly hope so.

    To clarify:

    There's a steamy hot sex scene between Beth and Vixen in chapter 9. I leave nothing to the imagination. Absolutely nothing.

    But the scene immediately afterwards? Them caressing each other? I had to censor stuff. Too intimate! Sexy questions, sexy answers, intimate questions, even more intimate answers. Fears, feeling, needs... physical affection that goes beyond sex, words of comfort... soft talk...

    Cut, cut, cut, cut. I tore and crippled more than half of it.

    I'm not ready for that yet. Sorry, readers. 😕

    Seriously, I have no problem writing it. I did write smut across all genders or sexual preferences but only consensual, of age and no BDSM because I don't know enough of the scene and you can do a lot of harm if you get it wrong.

    (Side note: As a personal recommendation, I fully recommend Stjepan Sejic's Sunstone series. He writes a lot of the BDSM scene and some of the pitfalls and even dangers. Also it has some of the funniest interactions between characters. Not everything that has to do with sex has to be serious, and Stjepan's characters are at times silly AF 🤣 )
