We experienced the #RedditBlackOut and we want to give the power back to the users.
We just granted €3000 to @LemmyDev and €333 to @ernest to support the new #threadiverse who already has hundreds of "subs" and thousands of users.
This grant is part of our engagement with the @copiepublique initiative that gathers companies who pledged to share profits to grant #FLOSS and #digitalCommons.
It makes me sad that an open source project that has a community on Reddit held a vote to leave and most users voted to stay.
What makes it worse is that I missed the vote because we were boycotting Reddit, then I just quit Reddit, so I didn't even know about the voting.
I get it that many open source projects run on volunteers, and their time can be stretched, and sometimes the easy way wins, but I still don't like it.
I'm all in on kbin, and now donate monthy to help fund its development. But we do need the content there... It will take time but I think we can do it.
Imagine the content that reddit has, but spread across the Fediverse, on numerous servers. One goes away, another is there to save the knowledge. No central repository controlled by a single entity.
@bowreality@benpocalypse Tildes looked very sparse. They have "design" and while I love graphic design I have no interest in fashion design. Topics seem very broad.
Reddit Tells Protesting Mods It Will Remove Them If They Don’t Stop, As Reddit’s Subreddit For The Blind Can No Longer Be Moderated By Blind Users | Techdirt
🤬 Reddit Gives Final Warning to Subreddits Using NSFW Protest Tactic
—@PCMag
“Please immediately correct the NSFW labeling on your subreddit. Failure to do so will result in action being taken on your moderator team by the end of this week,” Reddit told(Opens in a new window) the moderators of r/PICs. “This means moderators involved in this activity will be removed from this mod team.”
Well everyone, it's the first week in July, and #Reddit CEO Steve Huffman is still a lying asshat who treats Redditors as voiceless resources to exploit. So, as promised, I'm off Reddit and out of r/zfs for good.
The good news is, Practical ZFS is up and running as a replacement, with more than 100 registrations in its first day online and more continuing to come in. I hope to see you there soon!
Community Members and Community Supporters wanted!
I've set up a new home for OpenZFS community news, discussion, and education at https://discourse.practicalzfs.com/ and although it's still new and ugly, it's ready for folks to start kicking the tires.
Patreon supporters can log in to the Discourse using Patreon auth, and get Supporter flair and access to the Supporter's Lounge. Also, you can help patch the hole in my wallet! =)
The app rebuild stuff takes for bloody ever, but so far the actual platform seems pretty snappy. Hopefully it'll still seem that way once traffic ramps up 🙃
