Did you know that Tyrian #Purple, a #color worn by high-ranking people from the #Minoan era onwards, was pretty foul?
The dye was made of #sea#snails which were left to rot.
A dyer would then crush them and dye garments.
This would leave both his hands & the #fabric with a fishy, unpleasant smell.
The dye was also used by Rabbis & was so offensive that the #Talmud (a book important to #Judaism), would allow women to divorce their husbands if they became dyers after marriage.
These may be the funnest stickers I ever created. Stickers make me feel so youthful! Once I get all of this series listed, I will be getting a set for myself. LOL
This was my first year growing #Okinawa#Japanese#purple#SweetPotatoes. We love the taste & they grew well in our sack planters. I grow almost all tubers out of containers because I find it's easier to control & harvest than planting in ground. I will grow a lot more of them, next year. I grew only a few this year to experiment. Grows well in #Zone8 in #Saanich.
You could say that the #purple#frog resembles a turtle without its shell. That’s what the good people of #Idukki in #Kerala say. Or you could say that this amazing #amphibian looks like a bruised, bloated beanbag with beady eyes and a bootylicious backside. That’s what I say.
#Evolution rightly has no respect for conventional beauty standards. Instead, it sculpts and tweaks the forms of living things so they become adapted to their #environment.
"Tyrian purple was paraded by the most privileged in society for millennia—a symbol of strength, sovereignty and money. . . . Pliny the Elder described it as having a 'shining appearance when held up to the light.'"
