Time for the weekly digest thread for my #OPM series! (This is for you folk that don't like clicking off Mastodon, tho I assure you my site is advertising and tracking free!).
Noisy, chaotic and fun neo post punk with some vaguely poppy leanings. Deeply indebted to early Wire and Gang of Four, and probably a bunch of other acts from that era that I’ve forgotten, or never knew. Manages to be deeply silly and thoroughly abrasive simultaneously. Probably something the guys in Ween would enjoy.
Another comp that turned me on to most of these bands. Tracks are still kinda rare, like the Big Black track. I first got this after hearing the Killdozer cover of "Sweet Home Alabama".
My latest abomination. Songs about love sung from the clouds. Songs about hell sung from the grave. Also songs about weight loss. 'Cos once you're in a coffin, you lose a lot of weight, i guess.
Title track of the band's 1984 album, this sweeping ballad showcases a grand orchestration and Ian McCulloch's emotive vocals. Its poetic lyrics evoke a sense of longing and romanticism, culminating in a dramatic crescendo. Often considered one of their most iconic songs.
