My husband had to wait for 6 years to capture this view of #TheNeedles.
Taken as the #moon set at 4.30 am last summer. This shot is only possible a couple of times each year. He almost had it in 2016 but it was slightly too breezy and the telephoto lens couldn't keep in focus.
It causes controversy as some think it's fake, I promise you that it is not. It involved much research, persistence and luck with the weather! It's the cover shot on our 2024 calendar #IsleofWight#photography
In 2017 a man, after some thought, had a simple but genius idea and took a camera on a Southwest flight from Portland, Oregon to St. Louise and captured one of the most breathtaking images of all time.
Jon Carmichael's "108" is probably my favorite #eclipse image and provokes introspection every time I see it.
#PPOD: Pictured, behind this darker cloud, is a pileus iridescent cloud, a group of water droplets that have a uniformly similar size and so together diffract different colors of sunlight by different amounts. T Also captured were unusual cloud ripples above the pileus cloud. The formation of a rare pileus cloud capping a common cumulus cloud is an indication that the lower cloud is expanding upward and might well develop into a storm. Credit: Jiaqi Sun
There are some things that just have to be photographed. This kind of chalk-based street art definitely qualifies. It’s beautiful, whimsical, and sadly, ephemeral.
Yesterday’s annular eclipse as viewed from a city park on the outskirts of Hondo, #Texas. There was a broad layer of high clouds when we arrived but luckily they broke up & blew away just in time for the main event. Had to get up in the wee hours and drive 225 miles (362 km) west to get right in the center of the path but it was well worth it.
Landscape Photography doesn’t have to be about getting up early running, up a hill and taking a photo. I can’t do any of those things. These were taken by a road or in my wheelchair in the afternoon, the only time I can sit up. Just do what you can, #Dartmoor#Devon. #photography
On my way out to go to the tank farm (gas station for you who don’t live in the Arctic) and something stopped me in my tracks. #Nunavut#photography#LandscapePhotography
Inside a 250 year old French Violin. Photographed with a Medical Laparoscope adapted to a Lumix G9ii Camera. A 1770 violin by Augustin Chappuy. #music#art#photography SOURCE: Charles Brooks: https://www.charlesbrooks.info/
This is the best photo of magnetic core memory I've ever taken. IBM, early 60s. Shot with a microscope lens mounted on a 35mm B&W digital camera. No post! (I got into the habit of never doing any post-processing while documenting historic artifacts for the museum. Photoshop not allowed!) #retrocomputing#photography#rcsri
I used this shot for the cover of my book of images from our museum:
1/ This is the longest exposure I've ever taken: 8 months long! It shows the Sun's path on the sky between Apr 17 - Dec 11 2018, as seen from ESO's Paranal Observatory in #Chile.
This is part of a collaboration with Diego López Calvín, an expert in solarigraphy: https://solarigrafia.com
Diego sent me some of his hand-made #pinhole cameras, which I placed all over Paranal. So what do we see here? See thread below 👇
Loch Shiel at Glenfinnan in the Western Scottish Highlands and another example of being in the right place at the right time to catch a burst of autumnal sunshine, highlighting the colours of the season. Sometimes, luck is on your side!
In a local art project schoolchildren were shown photos of town buildings and were asked to color over them. The results were then projected onto the actual buildings at night. #art#photography#performance
