NPR’s data shows that they lost nothing after being ostracized by the psychotic white billionaire. It counters the idea that leaving Twitter is a loss. Let’s dismiss the idea that we need to be held hostage on any platform.
If #journalism went for viewpoint diversity, wouldn't it need to entertain flat earthers etc? So I'll agree that background diversity makes sense, but race and gender and sexual orientation are not enough. We should also want diversity of economic status, education and location etc. You have to try to do it all.
I'd rather there be harder lines drawn between reporting and commentary. Big orgs that try to be neutral for the former, total decentralization for the latter. All funded directly. #NPR
👋 Hello #fediverse! I'm going into a meeting at 4ET to talk about our newsroom's social media options.
If you think our station and other #NPR stations should have a Mastodon server or a broader presence in the #fediverse, pls boost this post. If you have thoughts, please reply, I want to hear them!
“A memo circulated to NPR staff says traffic has dropped by only a single percentage point as a result of leaving Twitter, now officially renamed X, though traffic from the platform was small already and accounted for just under two percent of traffic before the posting stopped.“ #twitter#nprhttps://niemanreports.org/articles/npr-twitter-musk/
A while back, I had submitted a request to the #NPR archival team to see if I could get access to the #WaitWaitDontTellMe episodes from 1998 and 1999 to help fill in the various blanks that I have in my data.
Unfortunately, after getting and replying to a few e-mails, I kind of hit a dead-end. Most shows at that time would have been saved on to DAT or reels that haven't been digitized or catalogued.
Since then, they have included a few segments from those shows in the special podcast episodes for #WaitWait's 20th anniversary in 2018 and subsequent Best Of episodes.
Maybe they were able to digitize and catalogue those episodes. I just submitted another request to see if I can get access to those episodes.
Heard an #NPR story on "why climate change is good for some wine growers" driving to/from an appointment 😬 (I guess someone told them "we need POSITIVE CLIMATE CHANGE STORIES FOR A CHANGE!") #climate#wine#FoodSupply
I don't mean to be alarmist, but I keep seeing this misinformation everywhere, including from okay outlets like #NPR : There are NO!!!! exceptions to the FULL BAN on ALL transition medical care in Missouri that will take effect on Thursday April 27.
It doesn't matter if you've taken HRT for decades, have no sex organs anymore, or have additional medical reasons to take HRT. Your doctor will not be allowed to prescribe medication or surgery to treat gender dysphoria. There are requirements in the "emergency rule" that claim to allow you to continue HRT if you meet them...
BUT THERE IS NO WAY TO MEET THOSE REQUIREMENTS. How can you "resolve" autism, anxiety, depression, personality disorders?
I was following #NPR because unlike other news outlets they did not repeatedly post the same story looks like they have jumped on the very annoying reposting bus... Anyone have any suggestions for news outlets that do not post the same story repeatedly throughout the day?
#Elon can’t make his mind up. #npr now no longer ‘state affiliated’ media… now ‘government funded.’ This all makes no sense at all. Also @VOANews is suddenly labelled government funded too… and yet is a public diplomacy outlet - so it operates in a very different way to @npr Here #twitter and #ElonMusk revealing they have no idea how these broadcasters are governed and what they do. #media#publicdiplomacy 🧵
I was today years old when I learned that a Cormorant Village, Minnesota, had a dog as a mayor. 🐶 Big fluffy Duke served four terms of one year each (that's 28 dog years!).
Before the Wait Wait show started last week in Seattle, I was talking to a couple of folks that worked behind the scenes and there was a mention of the pre-Sandwich Monday era.
I think there are several other eras that can be defined for the show:
The Pre-Peter Sagal Hosting Era
The Pre-Regular Live Tapings at Bank One (later Chase) Auditorium Era
The letter 'T' continues to disappear. Language is evolving before our ears.
Just hearing an #NPR news reader now talking about the verdict released yesterday in "Manha - un" and then she moved on to an update on the "Affordable Care ack."
This must've been what it was like living through the "Great Vowel Shift" in the English language during the 15th/16th century.
Of course, their Internet radio channel selection was much poorer back then.

NPR’s producer in Gaza, Anas Baba, was at the Rafah border crossing on Friday and saw throngs of Gaza laborers returning from detention....
