Several years ago, I purchased a Clevo N151CU laptop with the idea that I'd gradually upgrade the RAM, storage, and other bits. After my keyboard failed, I found it difficult to find replacement parts. The whole point of the Framework laptop is that it is specifically designed to be modular. It come in kit form, […]
A whole slate of new laptops are coming, and of course, manufacturers are trying to impress us with THINNESS! What about test driving a machine at the complete OPPOSITE of the thinness spectrum? https://somegadgetguy.com/b/45T
It's so rad to do a sponsored video like this, and the first thing they ask is "Can you blast our laptop with a hose?"
It's big, thicc, and chunky, but there are SO MANY things on this Getac I wish I had on "regular" thin laptops...
Looking for Toshiba L50utils.exe - laptop pcmcia drivers for Windows 95. It is long gone from the Toshiba website. Anybody with a floppy with this on or know where to find a copy?
Yesterday we were preparing a place for Tbilisi Guix Meetup and one of the residents of hackerspace brough an arm thinkpad. It's the first RISC laptop I see in person that feels modern and satisfying.
@piggo@delitrem I also a bit afraid that I'll spend days fixing arm-related stuff, but it seems the arm-related bug in fibers is fixed: https://github.com/wingo/fibers/issues/83, so I can use our Arei Scheme IDE without additional hussle and fix the rest, when it appears.
The production of our ultra-portable workstation, the TUXEDO Pulse 14 - Gen4, starts today. If you have already ordered, there are only a few days left until your order arrives!
@doboprobodyne is openbsd generally the one to run on a laptop?
and like, how do you find it as far as 'all the devices i wanted more or less work' factor?
i have a thinkpad carbon x1 here that was running linux but maybe would be cool with bsd?
Sadly my daily driver is still Linux due to wanting a couple of programs that aren't yet on #openbsd. Also because I want to follow novice tutorials for some things and having a very widely-used flavour of linux makes it much easier for me. Most of what I use for work can be accessed via a browser though, and I believe in learning by doing, so I will try to migrate to or towards #openbsd when I get time.
I'd say try it on an old thinkpad and see how it feels!

If I were to buy a new laptop with some version of newbie friendly linux preloaded, intending to use it for music and graphics arts (not gaming), social media, and regular LibreOffice type stuff (and affinity, audacity, etc), what laptop would I buy with what version of linux?
