I was walking down a country road, taking photos of an old barn with sheep in its yard. The fence was an old, weathered wooden one, fitting with the barn. I was called out of my thoughts by a thundering sound and a distant person yelling. I looked up and a huge horse was barreling towards me. I had nowhere to dodge, couldn't outrun it, so just watched the amazing thing run. Directly at me. It pulled up a nose's distance from me & I had to look up.

Female #slaves that misbehaved might find themselves restrained & humiliated in a REALLY bad way... a #ginger root was peeled, carved into an insertable shape & administered to the #anus.
This would cause a burning sensation that increases over time. Only after some 30 minutes will the pain ease, and it is prolonged by clenching.
A similar practice is used on #horses to keep their tail up.
She rescued the miniature pony last Summer and brought him back to health. They were leaving on their daily six mile walk on mountain backroads when I encountered them and stopped for a chat and picture.
Abstract:“Innovations in horse equipment during the early Middle Ages provided advantages to societies from the steppes, reshaping the social landscape of Eurasia. Comparatively little is known about the precise origin of these crucial advances, although the available evidence points to early adoption in East Asia. The authors...
It takes approx. two hours without forage in a horse's system for their digestive system to turn against them, increasing the risk of ulcers and colic, and causing them discomfort and pain regardless.
They are also designed to graze basically all day.
Yet it is not uncommon to feed #horses, especially in boarding facilities, as few as twice a day. A maximum of 4 times.
Even factoring in that it takes time to digest after eating, one can see how this leads to all sorts of problems.
A close up look at the black leather boot, stirrup and leg position associated with English Equitation. A correctly positioned foot will have the heel just below the stirrup bar and offers stability to the rider that allows the leg to absorb the the movement of the horse. As you learn to ride...the one thing you will hear over and over again until it is ingrained in your mind is 'heels down'. https://fineartamerica.com/saleannouncement.html?id=e30607d3313f445469f4cc0535a25272 Thank you to the buyer in Pennsylvania for your purchase! #horses
Heh, I don't look at stallion ads particularly often, but I'm amused by this one.
He's a 14.2hh Cob and they have a clause that says "no live cover for mares over 16hh." I don't think I've noticed a clause like that before, but it makes sense.
I'm guessing because he'd need a ladder, or at least a sufficiently steep hill.
It does happen, of course, but I'm now wondering how many studs have gotten kicked in the face that way.
Donut Media made a GREAT video measuring how many horsepowers an actual draft horse makes. tl;dr: James Watt very likely underquoted the power a horse makes to oversell the power that his steam engines made.
Two beautiful white mares (gal pals) stand side by side in a rural pasture on a warm, sunny summer day. It’s always nice to have a friend to hang out with. Yellow wildflowers grow along the wooden fence line in this newest art creation.
📷 Saw these horses again today, the first time since Summer. I shot this, then called to them, and the chestnut came up to the fence for a conversation and rubs.
