Found this at a shop that sells camping gear, used stereos, and vinyl. They have an old lazy dog that naps by the door to greet customers. All fits with the mood of this one.
Sorry to hear of the death of Betty Davis: Great funk, a real force of nature, and raunchy as hell. She's the Mademoiselle Mabry on Miles Davis's Filles de Kilimanjaro album, and we wouldn't have the title Bitches Brew without her. #funk#jazz
Walking to work this morning, Apple Music gave me this magnificent track from Pennywise, which turns out to the perfect tempo to bring my walk to a stomp.
I was sixteen in 1990 when #DeeeLite released their top 10 hit single “Groove Is In The Heart.” Here’s a short routine I performed to help celebrate my #dance studio’s “Sweet 16” anniversary party.
Today in Music History: January 31st (1976) The Ohio Players' "Love Rollercoaster" hits # 1 in America. The scream in the instrumental section is rumored to be the sound of a woman being killed in the studio, an urban legend that persists for decades. #70s#urbanlegend#funk#music#history
Repostin' this sick Herbie video w/ Wah-Wah, cause the piano solo backed with extremely funky guitar at the end is making me low key lose my mind at work today
My brother-in-law (deceased) was related to Allen Toussaint & my sister & I went to see him perform in Napa a year or so before he passed away.
I never realized how musically important he was until then & it was a special experience to watch him perform & visit with him backstage w/my sister after the show.
As I work into talking about my record collection, I’m starting back at the beginning with albums and artists that shaped my journey to where things stand today. Another pivotal record was Gap Band - “IV”. A top 5 all-time funk/R&B band. The intro synth on opening track “Early in the Morning” continues to influence my musical explorations to this day. Of course you know “Dropped a Bomb on Me”, but don’t sleep on “Outstanding”, another monster groove classic. #funk#gapband#VinylCollection
A thread yesterday got me thinking about the brilliant #jazz drummer, Chico Hamilton, and I recalled that there's a "secret" #LittleFeat album from 1973 with Chico:
Every song is an extended Latin-#funk-y jam with almost the entire line-up of Little Feat (w/ Richie swapped for Chico). It's almost more of a jam session than an album. Deffo worth a spin.
#AdrianYounge is almost insanely talented & productive. As a composer, musician & producer he's a gateway to #soul, #funk, #jazz, #hiphop & how they intersect. His music sounds like the past & the future.
