Migrated to @musician.social today, from @mastodon.art -- looking forward to getting closer to my musician peeps!
I'm a singer-songwriter, I write ballads, vignettes, and earnest, multipart circle songs -- occasionally reaching into other vernaculars as the song requires. Lifting voices and spirits with music and good company, in the richest of folk tradition.
Swedish folk siren Sofia Talvik. An artist none of your friends had heard of, let alone heard, in mid 00s (probably lots still haven't).
2nd album she released this amazing gem for fans, whole album of remixes alongside, but flipped away from her lilting folk chanteuse sound, into 8bit c64 NES dance territory.
Fun to put same track pushing the remix envelope out back to back & no context for ppl.
Talented, accomplished musicians & songwriters. Turin Brakes beautiful double acoustic guitar + vocals sound. This upload is better audio quality than the overly compressed music video alternative. Maybe close your eyes for a moment and drink in their sound unfettered by visuals.
Beautiful upbeat, childlike but haunting folk track. This track feels like some of the leftover warmly comforting emotions of half remembered good memories from childhood, with the full meaning and detail somehow just fogged up beyond your grasp.
Not sure how else to persuade you to try this track if you don't know it. Another awesome export from NZ.
She has some fantastic tracks. I love the clean framework of the arrangement here that gives lots of space for her vocals to shine. This track sits somewhere in between reggae & folk for me.
Welcome contrast to assassins, Gvt agencies, ninjas, space robots (film is like music it's good to like some pieces from every genre!) to gently tell a story about people & making music.
This 😎vid expands your thinking in the best way, audioviz learning. Initial song idea + arrangement = fully produced track. Includes famous ppl, but not the point.

I've written on #ghostlore, folklore about #rats, #cannibalism at sea, tongue twisters (inter alia), and (increasingly) folklore's history. Was doing this through folkloresque representation in #folkhorror & crime novels (& soon #DrWho), now planning just as historical research. Perhaps...
