The wild roan pinto stallion known as Clorox watches the rear as his band moves ahead of him. Spring is a tense time for band stallions as mating season draws lots of attention from competing males. They keep their bands close and as much distance from others as possible.
#WildHorseWednesday! 'Stallion school' on the north Onaqui range. The young grullo, Cooper, is getting a lesson from band stallion, Clorox. Sparring keeps the skills sharp for the older stallion and teaches the younger one skills he will need to win and keep his own band one day.
#WildHorseWednesday! Another shot of Clorox and Cooper. Sometimes those teenagers want to test their limits, lol. Band stallion Clorox straightens young Cooper out with a 'kiss' on the cheek. This type of 'challenge' is a training exercise.
#MustangMonday A wild pinto stallion known as Charger watches over his family. A bay mare, her yearling colt, and 4 week old filly. They are a part of the north Onaqui herd.
Today I celebrate the life of Oreo! An iconic Onaqui stallion lost last week due to injuries. It's part of life in the wild, the cost of freedom some say.
A fixture of the north herd for many years, he was a band stallion and had run with the bachelors. He was a benevolent teacher of the young.
Wild horse hair, he don't care! A majestic black stallion from the south Onaqui herd, known as Cash, looks out over the range.
If you ever forget there is magic in the world, just go hang with the wild ones.
I don't usually share 'products' but I got my T-Shirt yesterday! Quality 100% cotton shirt and printing looks great. Original design from my photos on the back. 10 colors in adult and youth sizes. Back to wild horse photos tomorrow :)
It's #MustangMonday and this is the boys club on the south Onaqui range. This motley crew of bachelors are usually stirring up trouble at every turn, but here they are huddled near the waterhole with their backsides to the strong wind that was blowing.
