For nearly 20 years now, the web has been Google’s platform; we’ve all just lived on it…For a lot of small businesses and content creators, that’s suddenly not stable anymore. The number one question I have for anyone building things on someone else’s platform is: What are you going to do when that platform changes the rules?
In the near future a mass of people are going to die in a city from the heat, and the headlines will say that "it wouldn't have been so bad except the power went out"
Heat is going to take down power systems. The power systems that could protect us from an event, will be harmed by the event.

A giudicare da quanta gente sembra aver appena capito che #Duckduckgo, #Ecosia, #Qwant, (e Yahoo! e molti altri) sono alimentati essenzialmente da #Bing, non c'è da essere ottimisti sulla consapevolezza dagli utenti.
Che poi l'alternativa sarebbe il monopolio di #Google, quindi persino peggio.
So it seems that #DuckDuckGo was down for the last few hours because of a #Bing outage. That's very annoying; DDG should probably get out from under Microsoft's coat tails...
While #DuckDuckGo is down, I tried out a few other search engines. I did a search I made yesterday in each. #Bing gave me an interesting looking blog first, then some less-related info from high-trust sources, then an interesting paper, then a bunch of garbage. #Mojeek gave me nothing that looked interesting, just pages that used some of the words from my search. #Kagi gave me the less-related high-trust sources first, then the entire rest of the first page looked interesting.

Calling #DuckDuckGo just a #Bing front-end is technically true but also it does add a lot of value on top acting as a privacy shield not letting #Microsoft track the users. I also like the features it provides on top like bangs, etc. Also hopes it builds its own index sometime. They say they have their own index but I doubt it as it was unable to return any results even for simple queries when Bing was down.
