Last week, at an IRL gathering of my organization, a team activity involved a competitive trivia-off—two people go head-to-head on presenting each other with trivial facts, and whoever can go on the longest wins.

This...this is not the right activity for a gathering of nerds. I can and will provide interesting facts pretty much endlessly, given the opportunity. Eventually we had to call it off and rock-paper-scissors it.

Whenever I'm doing in-depth research for a piece of journalism, I always re-discover the amazing quality of nonfiction books

A good nonfiction book is the most information-rich/dense piece of media on the planet

The qualifier "good" being crucial here, bien sur

But if it is good? Holy crap

You hold in your hands the product of someone who spent years exploring a subject, and sifting for the absolute best data/stories

Nothing -- no documentary, magazine piece, white paper -- can compare

No, I just quoted it because I've been kind of mesmerized by Boeing's troubles over the last few years, and intrigued also by the stories about how they let their engineering culture slip!

but you're quite right that this jet is really old -- so it isn't representative of the problems with the newer jets in any way

I just deleted that post -- I appreciate you and the others pointing out the age issue with the jet here, I hadn't originally considered that
