Quite a few folks embarking on #Discworld re-reads at the moment! Hopefully you’ll enjoy listening to us as you go - but we’re not the only Pratchett podcast out there!
Our own @McKenzie_Ben has a side project keeping track of all our sibling shows, and you can find them all indexed at the Guild of Recappers & Podcasters:
Some people date the recent decline of England to 2016 but imo it began on 12 March 2015. I've been re-reading Jingo, The Fifth Elephant, and Night Watch, which all seem as relevant now as when written over 20 years ago. Here's Vimes thinking about processions staged by the powers that be.
"There was nothing like the massed ranks of wizardry walking sedately through the city in a spirit of civic amicability to subtly remind the more thoughtful kind of person that it hadn’t always been this way. Look at us, the wizards seemed to be saying. We used to rule this city. Look at our big staffs with the knobs on the end. Any one of these could do some very serious damage in the wrong hands so it’s a good thing, isn’t it, that they’re in the right hands at the moment? Isn’t it nice that we all get along so well?" - Jingo by Terry Pratchett, by jingo
“I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.”
Currently listening to the new Equal Rites audiobook with Indira Varma et al
She really is an excellent narrator and a big improvement on the old Nigel Planer versions #pratchett#Discworld

"William wondered why he always disliked people who said ‘no offence meant’. Maybe it was because they found it easier to say ‘no offence meant’ than actually refrain from giving offence."
– The Truth (Terry Pratchett)
Thanks to those who attended episode FIVE of our discworld (1995) playthrough and quiz. As usual I've taken the three-or-so hours of gameplay and boiled it down into my favourite bits... typically an abject mess of confusion and smut.
Book Depository (one of our bigger revenue streams) is closing down forever on Wednesday.
That also means our international readers will have a harder time getting #TerryPratchett#discworld books in English too as the Book Depository offered free shipping worldwide.
I know to most that means nothing, but to us it means two of our revenue streams are gone.
For anyone wondering, the hashtag I habitually use on follow thank yous #TheMammutMoves was created by way of an indication of rebellion against the bird site & especially the super rich powers that govern our world.
However it is based on a quote from #TerryPratchett ‘s #discworld namely “The Turtle Moves” and can therefore be used as a sign of rebellion against pretty much anything! 🫶🖖
If you were wondering (as well as if you werent) this is the part at which Aaronovitch quotes Nanny Ogg's "pull up a chair and call the cat a bastard" from the #Discworld

We are #Pratchat, a #TerryPratchett#book club #podcast. Each month we* discuss one of Pratchett’s books, short stories or other works with a special guest - and we aim to cover all of them, not just the #Discworld ones!
We’re new to Mastodon, but chatting with our listeners has been a big part of the show since we started back in 2017.
Still settling into the elephant site. Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome! ❤️ Here are a few of my relevant interests that you'll see me boost, toot, and talk about:
I've written one #romcom#novel so far, not yet published, and a few articles on #extremeProgramming which were published. I might be a better editor than a writer.
my literary heroes include Terry Pratchett #discworld and Theodore Sturgeon
