Both of the Pekin bantam chickens 🐓 are brooding ❗️ It’s usually one after the other but sadly both of them are tucked away in the nest boxes for most of the day at the moment 🙃 The faverolle chickens 🐓 have never become broody. We have to physically bring the Perkins out otherwise they would not eat. They are happy eating all of their chard today. Go girls #Allotment#Gardening#GrowYourOwn#Today#Chickens
Seeking to help #rehome these 2 young & healthy #roosters because I don't want them to be euthanized if it's avoidable. The owners can't keep roos where they live. If you're in #VictoriaBC#Saanich#Metchosin#Sooke or anywhere on South #VancouverIsland / #vanisle & can adopt one or both - please let me know asap & boost if you're in these areas to help find new homes for these wonderful #chickens
Eleven new chickens running around our fenced hutch yard. Our daughter raised them from chicks for us (she’s in the poultry business) and we just added them to our small flock. Our five older hens are not happy, but are begrudgingly accepting the new additions. There’s strength in numbers. Couldn’t catch them all together, but managed to get pics of a few. #Chickens#chickensofmastodon
If you're in the East Bay or want an excuse to visit Hayward, come see the Members' Show at the Sun Gallery (https://www.sungallery.org) which runs from June 22-July 29, 2023. The reception is June 24th from 1-4PM.
I'll have three pieces in the show. Names and descriptions are in the alt-tags.
#Gardening#chickens are back in the veg plot slug clearing from about a hundred broad beans I have 6 plants ,most of the rest slugs have eaten .I planted spare because I expected losses ,but thats too many ,ditto with peas ,there was probably a lot more peas because I am trying to recreate some red podded peas I accidently created from unnamed "heirloom" golden podded and purple podded peas sheep ate the resulting plants I have bought loads of different kinds to try in different combinations
A friend of mine who allows her #parrots to #FreeFlight in her home, uses similar vests to keep the bird poop from messing the house, and also for harnesses to leash and keep them from flying away outdoors.
It might sound weird to non-bird people, but it's actually very practical.
The new ladies is still looking a little rough, but hoping they will be able to grow out their feathers properly during summer. They came from a big farm with 120 chickens so my guess is they got picked on a lot. They're still a little shy but starting to get braver with each day 🐔 #chickens#hens
Recycling ♻️ The long chard bed which we took the netting off yesterday has been weeded (well the bigger weeds). 🤓 Then for the greater good they have been recycled to the ladies 🐓 . #Allotment#Gardening#GowYourOwn#Today#Chickens
I noticed two nights ago that one of the hens didn't fit on the sleeping log with all the others so I went and found a longer one and this is the result. Not sure if she's alone by choice, bullying or haven't figured out there's more room for her now.
I felt like the world's worst human when I noticed this, hoping they sort it out now. #chickens
Got my first Stealth broody of the year ,my little Scots Dumpy bantam went AWOL a few days back ,I knew for certain she hadnt been eaten shes very wick and she was with another chicken and the cat in the front garden so nothing could have got her (cats afraid of the chickens) I stayed out this morning to watch and sure enough she suddenly appeared ,no idea from where so shes def in my garden somewhere .She disapeared just as magically in the seconds it took to let the cockerals out #Chickens

This is Flora last year when I managed to persuade her to nest in a coop .Shes a Scots Dumpy ,which for a while was Scotlands national symbol and is the reason its symbol is a thistle ,Dumpys were carried by the Scots army to warn of anyone approaching, the Romans tried to sneak up under cover of darkness, the birds sounded the alarm ,the Romans ended up driven into a thistle patch and roundly beaten :) https://www.raising-chickens.org/Scots-Dumpy-Chicken.html
